About This Pub
Ah, the Castle Inn – it's one of those classic British pubs that feels like a proper community hub, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food really shines; think juicy burgers with homemade chips or a hearty Sunday carvery that leaves you satisfied without breaking the bank, especially with those tempting offers like 30% off mains. The team behind the bar are dead chatty and make you feel welcome, which is lovely for a relaxed catch-up with mates. Plus, the beer garden's a nice touch for sunnier days, and it's great that dogs are allowed – perfect for a walk followed by a pint. On the flip side, though, service can be a bit of a letdown; I've heard tales of long waits for food even when it's not busy, like meals going cold while waiting for gravy, which is a right nuisance. The outdoor area could use a bit more love, and those fruit machines don't seem to play fair. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out if you're in Wolverhampton, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations – it's got that warm, homely charm, but it's not without its quirks. If you're after a place with tasty eats and a laid-back atmosphere, give it a try, but maybe plan for a bit of patience with the service.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is spot on – I've heard great things about their burgers, homemade chips, and even the Sunday carvery; it's proper pub grub that hits the spot.
-
The staff are always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in, which really adds to the cosy atmosphere.
-
They've got a lovely beer garden where you can enjoy a pint in the sunshine, and it's even dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry mate along.
-
Plenty of options on the drinks menu, from draught lagers and craft beers to wines and cocktails, plus they show live sports, which is brilliant for a casual watch.
-
With offers like 30% off mains, it's good value for money, especially if you're popping in for a meal with friends.
Cons
-
Wait times for food can drag on, even when the place isn't packed, like one chap mentioned waiting ages for gravy and ending up with cold grub.
-
The beer garden could do with some sprucing up, as it's not quite as inviting as it could be, according to a few comments.
-
Some of the extras, like the fruit machines, seem a bit stingy on payouts, which might put a dampener on things if you're after a quick flutter.
-
Service for meals can be inconsistent; it's a shame when you're excited for your order and it takes longer than expected.

Food was ok however 15minutes waiting on gravy, still ended up with none as meal was going cold........bar service great
Food service too long waiting for meals and pub wasnt busy.
Just an ok pub, fantastic name and location, but for some reason, it doesn't get the business it deserves. The fruit machines are set to minimum payout, and the beer garden should be better, but they seem to keep plodding on. Would recommend for a quick drink, but as a side note, it might benefit from a reinvention or new management.
We went to the castle wednesfield not knowing what to expect with the food. I can honestly say it was fantastic and me and my friend really really enjoyed the food. We had spicy burger with home made chips. Just as advertised the burger looked and tasted great with proper home made chips. Well worth a visit for a drink, food or both 😉
Went in on Saturday dinner time with my family and was very pleasantly surprised staff was friendly and quick to take my order pub was busy but we was made to feel very welcome.
I’d definitely recommend the chicken kebab and the home made chips was very nice touch
We went for lunch on a Wednesday, it was fairly quiet, we were greeted by 'The Boss' as shown on his tee-shirt. He offered us a choice of various tables. The Inn is part of the 'Marston' group. The menu offered a hugh choice. Menu orders were taken at the bar. The bar also offered a wide choice of Ales and Ciders. Pricing was very reasonable. Service of the food to table was given by a very helpful waitress. The food was excellent. The steak I had chosen was medium rare 15mm thick and done to perfection, the chips, although a production chip was also cooked perfectly. This choice came with onion rings and peas as standard. Apparently they do a Carvery on Sundays Lunchtimes and Wednesday evenings. We decided to book a Sunday meal and the earliest booking was 2 weeks. I'm not surprised after tasting the food and seeing how hard they work to keep the serving area for the carvery spotless. It offers a bright well maintained environment. Full credit to 'The Boss' and his co workers. Can't wait for my Sunday booking to come.
UPDATE:
We went for our Sunday Carvery, greeted by very pleasant staff member. Shown to table. Orders for Carvery taken at the Bar. Choice of two, regular or large. At the carvery counter was choice of three meats, variety of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings. Gravey was supplied in a separate area adjacent to serving area, help yourself. All meal complementary sauces were there for your meal. "The Boss", Andy, has got one of the best teams I have seen, happy, helpful, and dedicated to the customer service. Well done all, will definatly visit again. See pictures for meal and dessert.
