About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Cardwell Adlington – it's one of those pubs that really hits the mark most of the time, with a solid 4.6 rating from folks who've been there. I've heard from mates that the food is brilliant; imagine tucking into a massive, tasty Sunday roast or that prawn salad that's as good as it gets. The staff are proper gems too, always up for a chat and bending over backwards to make sure you're happy, like when they let you sample wines or sort out fussy orders without a fuss. It's clean as a whistle, which is a nice touch, and they've got deals like Munchy Monday that make it a bargain. Plus, it's great for a relaxed meal or even something special like Christmas dinner, where everything flows nicely without feeling rushed. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect – on busier evenings, you might end up waiting ages for your grub, and that could mean the food doesn't quite live up to expectations, as one regular found out. Still, with most reviews raving about it, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just maybe avoid the peak times to keep things smooth.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – think huge portions of delicious meals like that sweet chilli prawn salad, perfect for a hearty Sunday lunch.
  • Service is always friendly and accommodating; they're happy to go the extra mile, whether it's letting you taste wines or tweaking orders to suit.
  • The place is kept spotlessly clean, which makes for a really welcoming atmosphere every time you step in.
  • They've got great deals like Munchy Monday, and there's plenty of parking, making it easy to pop in without any hassle.
  • It's a lovely spot for special occasions, with a relaxed vibe and staff who keep things cheerful and unhurried.
Cons
  • On busy days, like bank holidays, you might face long waits for your food, which can sometimes lead to meals not being up to the usual standard.
  • Not every visit is flawless; there have been instances where regulars were disappointed, so it pays to check if it's a quiet time.

Took my elderly mum for a spontaneous Sunday Lunch and what a fabulous meal! The Cardwell is spotlessly clean, the service friendly, good humoured and accommodating and the food superb! Mum’s sweet chill prawn salad was one of the best she’s ever eaten and it was HUGE too. Tasted so beautiful. I had the roast which was excellent and everything cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!

First bad meal at the Cardwell after being a regular. Ordered the tagliatelle off the munchy Monday menu, a deal I've had often. It was busy as it was bank holiday and waited over an hour for food which was fine as we had drinks and there was a singer on. The food came out and 3 of the meals the usual generous portions and my pasta about 5/6 fork fulls, literally nothing! I ate it and sat there with an empty plate for about 25mins whilst everyone ate and struggled to finish and I had their leftovers as I was hungry. I mentioned it to the waitress who talked to the chef and said the portion was fine and as it was prawns they do smaller portions for the Monday deal. I explained I wasn't complaining about the lack of the prawns it was the actual lack of pasta and a main meal! She was adamant the chef said it was fine. The waitress was friendly and only passing on a message but the chefs attitude was terrible. This is the only meal of many I've had that was miniscule, I appreciate it was busy but regardless of the Monday deal I paid a tenner for a few fork fulls of pasta which was actually expensive. Not sure if I'd go back and certainly won't recommend to anyone again.

Been today for tea three of us. Couldn’t have asked for better service! We couldn’t decide on the wine and asked could we taste… no problem at all. Our order was a bit fussy as we wanted main meals and starters as mains also. They couldn’t do enough for us, anything we asked for (even being fussy) was no problem. The chef…. Well what can I say? Other than 10/10 everything was beautifully presented and tasted divine! Thank you x

First time we have been here .I was recommended this pub by a friend who said they did a Monday special called munchy Monday . We were advised to book, so we did before we travelled . When we arrived there was a good-sized car park at the side lots of room . We went in and were met with staff who were very pleasant and friendly it is a typical old village pub, clean tables, and well spaced out inside . We ordered the 3 courses, which was £13.95 . You have the option of 1 course 2 course or the 3 courses each time increasing from £9.95 to £11.95 to £13.95 Food came piping hot and excellently presented and was great tasting. They were quite large portions, which was a surprise for the price . We had creamy mushrooms / fish and chips, and I had cheesecake, which was another level . I do beleve the will box your sweet to take home if you find you can't finish the 3 courses . All in all, excellent, we will be back. Food was first class

Went for Christmas dinner. £80 a head for 3 courses plus mince pie and tea or coffee after. It was absolutely delicious. And the service from the staff was brilliant. Nothing was rushed, all came at a nice place, just enough time between courses and a smile on every staff members face. Not to busy. But enough people in to create a nice atmosphere. Would 100% recommended. Thanks again to the team for an amazing day.
