About This Pub

Ah, the Canalhouse – it's one of those places that sticks in your mind long after you've left. I mean, where else can you sip a pint while gazing at a narrow boat bobbing along inside the pub? It's got this brilliant mix of history and fun, being in a Grade II listed building, and it's picked up some top awards for its beers, which are always spot on with a great variety to choose from. The food's another winner; think solid pub grub and specials that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. And the team behind the bar are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the downside, though, the canal can look a bit messy at times, which is a pity in such a unique spot, and it does fill up quickly, so you might end up waiting around if you pop in unannounced. Still, for anyone looking for a proper Nottingham experience, it's well worth a visit – the good bits far outweigh the little niggles, and you'll likely leave with a smile.

Pros and Cons

  • The canal running right through the pub is an absolute delight – it's such a quirky and memorable feature that makes every visit feel special.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of beers, from cask ales to craft kegs, which is perfect if you're a real ale fan.
  • The food menu is spot on, with hearty pub classics, Sunday roasts, and changing specials that always deliver good value and taste.
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • There's a lovely beer garden for soaking up the sun, and it's in a great spot for hopping between nearby pubs.
Cons
  • The canal water can sometimes look a bit untidy, which takes away from the charm just a tad.
  • It gets pretty busy at times, so you might have to queue for a drink or struggle to find a seat, especially on weekends.

One of the unique pubs I’ve been to and it has a lot of space. With the canal in built to the venue, it adds up a pleasant vibe. Also, a great selection of beers and the staff is friendly. Ideal to bar hop as there are a few other pubs close by.

A unique pub in a great location. There aren't many pubs that can say they have part of a canal and a canal boat inside. Quite unique feature, even though it was a bit untidy in the water. The food was excellent. A good choice of meals and light lunches and really good quality with generous portions. A nice outside area with lots of seating and good canal views.
