About This Pub
Oh, the Bulls Head in Meriden is one of those places that just feels like a proper cosy spot for a get-together, doesn't it? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really shines – think hearty English roasts with juicy pork and chicken, paired with fresh veggies and tasty gravies that folks rave about. It's all made with the best local ingredients, which gives it that authentic, homey feel you'd expect from a traditional pub. The staff are an absolute highlight too; they're so attentive and friendly, making sure you're looked after from the moment you walk in, which always makes for a more enjoyable evening. And let's not forget the setting – nestled in a gorgeous 17th-century coaching inn with a courtyard and garden, it's just the ticket for a sunny afternoon drink or a relaxed dinner. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; a couple of reviews mentioned the beef being a bit dry or some drinks not quite justifying their price, like that pricey Asahi that left one person underwhelmed. Still, with such a strong overall rating, it's clear the good far outweighs the bad. If you're heading out for a pub crawl or a meal with mates, I'd say give it a go – it's got that welcoming charm that makes you want to come back, just keep an eye on those little niggles to manage your expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot-on, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients making dishes like roasts and salads a real treat – it's proper honest pub grub that hits the spot.
-
The staff are wonderfully friendly and attentive, like Rachel who's been praised for her genuine care and making everyone feel welcome.
-
It's got that charming historic vibe in a 17th-century coaching inn, with a lovely courtyard and garden that's perfect for a relaxed pint or meal.
-
A great selection of real ales, wines, and lagers to choose from, so you're spoilt for choice when it comes to washing down your food.
-
They offer stylish and comfortable hotel rooms if you're popping in from further afield, adding a nice touch for an overnight stay.
Cons
-
Some dishes can be hit or miss, like the beef coming out a bit dry in one go, which might leave you wishing for that extra tenderness.
-
Drinks can feel a tad overpriced, as one person noted with their Asahi, which didn't quite live up to the cost.
-
There might be the odd service hiccup or detail overlooked, such as missing dressings on sides, though it doesn't seem to be the norm.

First time in England proper besides airport. First English roast. We all had same thing the English roast sampler. The pork and chicken were good. The beef was dry. The gravy was good and so was the vegetables. I’m not a fan of Yorkshire pudding, and there was no dressing in it which there was supposed to be per the native I ate with. The best thing I had here was the dark chocolate brownie with ice cream. great atmosphere and great service. Good place to try when you’re in town.
Came here for lunch today (1st June 2025). Our waitress, Rachel, was fantastic. Very friendly, attentive and helpful. Her other colleagues among the waiting staff were very good too. The food was superb. Many thanks to chef Nick! Been here many times over the years, and it’s always been a wonderful experience. Thank you to all at the Bull’s Head, Meriden.
We had a lovely time with excellent food for a mid-week lunch. Service was friendly and attentive, and the dishes were presented with care. I've included pictures of the super green salad with goats cheese, apple tart and the chocolate bomb (melting with the chocolate sauce). All delicious and we will happily visit again!
What a delicious meal the best pork meal I’ve ever had! The service by Rachel was exquisite and you could tell she genuinely cared about her customers. Nick was the chef and compliments to him as was absolutely delightful from start to finish. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough for places to eat 5* all round.
We visited on Friday night had a table booked and was promptly shown to our table with the allergy check being thorough. We ordered our drinks and the quality of the Asahi certainly didn’t match the £6.85 price point either the drink or the glass?? Our starters arrived 2 squids which were both lovely. Unfortunately we then had to wait nearly an hour for our far less than average food, cold fries, double dipped chips and a mushroom and onion mix that I am still a little confused by, photo attached. Our cold fries were replaced by luke warm ones, for the price paid in a “premium” labelled environment we will not be returning.
Disappointing overall!
