About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about the British Oak – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a laid-back evening or a quick stop after a stroll around Wakefield. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute stars; they're so welcoming and go the extra mile, like fetching a blanket when the weather turns, which really adds to that cosy feel. The atmosphere is spot on too, whether you're enjoying the outdoors on a sunny day or settling in inside – it's clean, comfortable, and just the right place for a chat over reasonably priced drinks. On the flip side, not many folks have shared their thoughts on the food, so I'd say it's worth trying but maybe not banking on it just yet. And, honestly, the website's a bit of a faff with some access issues, which could make planning a visit a tad frustrating. All in all, if you're after a friendly local spot without the pretence, this one's a winner – I'd pop in if you're nearby, but keep expectations balanced on the grub front.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, perfect for a casual pint whether you're soaking up the sun outside or warming up indoors.
  • Prices are spot on – not too steep, so you can enjoy a few drinks without breaking the bank.
  • The place is spotlessly clean, both inside and out, and they've got thoughtful touches like providing blankets if it gets chilly.
  • It's a great spot to pop in after a walk, with plenty of benches for outdoor relaxing.
Cons
  • There aren't many reviews chatting about the food yet, so it's hard to say if it's as good as the drinks scene.
  • The website seems a bit tricky to navigate or access, which might make it harder to check details before heading over.

Perfect place to stop for a pint in snow or shine. I came here last summer for a few drinks with my sister and the atmosphere was amazing. We sat outside on one of the many benches and had a blast in the sun! We also stopped in January this year after a walk in the snow and it was the perfect place to warm up before we went home for lunch. The guy behind the bar is cute too 👀😂
