About This Pub

Ah, the Britannia – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away by the river Nene, where you can unwind with good company and a decent pint. I have to say, what really stands out is the warm, inviting atmosphere; the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, flashing smiles even on busy nights, and they've got some cracking food on offer that captures that classic pub feel with a touch of seasonal flair. Whether it's tucking into a light starter or enjoying the beer garden on a sunny day, it's clear why folks keep coming back for more. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect – I've heard a few tales of meals not quite hitting the mark, like something turning out a bit dry, which is a shame when the rest is so promising. Plus, it does get popular, so planning ahead is a must to avoid disappointment. All in all, if you're after a relaxed spot for a catch-up with friends, it's worth a visit, but keep those little quirks in mind for a smoother experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location by the river is just lovely, making it a brilliant spot for a relaxing afternoon or evening with mates.
  • Service is spot on – the staff are friendly and efficient, even when things get a bit hectic, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
  • The food hits the mark with tasty options like those beetroot and goats cheese starters or classic pub dishes; it's comforting and well-prepared most of the time.
  • They've got a cracking beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun with a refreshing pint, especially with their new seasonal ales on offer.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be hit or miss, like one person found their meal a tad dry, so it might not always live up to expectations.
  • It's best to book ahead, particularly on weekends, as it fills up quickly and you don't want to miss out.
  • Parking is free but requires registering, which could be a minor hassle if you're not prepared for it.

Alex - Server Im not a big eater but having had no breakfast, & didnt fancy a main I had the beetroot & goats cheese starter with halloumi fries & a side salad. So good definitely hit the spot. A beautiful lump by the river.

We met up with a large party of friends. Bar staff were on point, keeping everyone supplied. My dish was delightful, my husbands a bit dry. From yhr outside you wouldn't know there is a beautiful setting right by the river with outdoor seating

It’s a really nice pub and I think has undergone refurbishment since my last visit. I came to spend a gift voucher I had been bought for my birthday. Had a pint and a main course of fish and chips with mushy peas, sat in the bar area. (I had waited a a few minutes in the restaurant hoping to be greeted and seated there but there was nobody about). The barman was friendly and helpful. Food took around 20 minutes to arrive and it was naff - heated up frozen food, poor value considering the £17 asking price. I am frustrated to be leaving an average review - the food here was, once, excellent. This meal was a real disappointment. It’s a shame because it’s a nice pub to spend time in.

Really nice place with terrace next to river. Plenty of seating inside and plenty outside, but on weekends have to book in advance. Free parking, but have to register otherwise will get penalty. Food was nice, we really enjoyed. Recommend

Popped in for dinner and had not booked a table, forgetting it was half term week and so most tables were booked but one table left in the bar area so that was perfect. Service was great, smiles from staff even though it was busy and food was delicious. I made a mistake and ordered the wrong drink but this was sorted out by the staff so highly recommend this pub, staff, food and atmosphere 👌
