About This Pub

Ah, Sir Pickering Phipps – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a traditional English spot with a modern twist, right there on Wellingborough Road. I have to say, the friendly atmosphere is what stands out most; it's so welcoming that you'll find folks of all ages popping in for a chat or a relaxing break from shopping. The space is brilliant too – plenty of room with comfy sofas and nooks to settle into, and that big fireplace adds a cosy touch when the weather turns chilly. Sports enthusiasts will love it; with multiple screens showing live games in HD, it's spot on for catching the latest match with a pint of real ale or craft beer in hand. The food's straightforward and enjoyable if you're in the mood for something light, like a good sandwich. On the flip side, though, prices do seem a bit on the high side based on what I've heard, so it might not be the best for a budget night out. And while most experiences are positive, a few mentions of limited menu options mean it could fall short if you're hoping for a hearty dinner. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in Northampton – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – friendly and relaxed, making it a great spot for all ages to unwind and socialise.
  • It's spacious with plenty of comfortable seating, like those high leather sofas and cosy corners, plus a roaring fireplace in the colder months.
  • Fantastic for sports fans with full HD Sky coverage on multiple plasma screens, so you won't miss a moment of the action.
  • They've got a solid selection of real ale and craft beer, and the food options, like sandwiches and toasties, are tasty when you're after something simple.
  • Convenient features like a courtyard for a smoke, disabled access, and baby changing facilities make it welcoming for everyone.
Cons
  • Prices can be a bit steep, which might put some off if you're just popping in for a quick pint.
  • The food menu seems a tad limited, mostly sticking to things like sandwiches and toasties, so it might not satisfy if you're after a full meal.
  • Recent feedback suggests service can vary, and while it's generally good, it's not always spot on.

Nice little pub but limited food, mainly sandwiches and toasties when we went. However, the food was good and the beer excellent, so it's a nice place to stop off at whilst wandering Wellingborough Road.
