About This Pub
Ah, Brierley Hop House – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away by the waterfront in Brierley Hill. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got that warm, friendly atmosphere where you can pop in for a pint and some solid British fare without breaking the bank. Most people rave about the food; think hearty pub classics that hit the spot, especially with options for the little ones and even deals that make lunch feel like a treat. The staff often get a big thumbs up too – they're described as smiley and attentive, really making you feel welcome, which is just what you want after a day out shopping nearby. And let's not forget the beer garden; it's a brilliant spot to unwind on a sunny afternoon, and being dog-friendly adds a nice touch for those walks by the water. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – there are tales of dodgy meals that were dry or poorly prepared, and the occasional service slip where things felt a bit rushed or ignored. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.1, it's clear the good outweighs the bad for most. If you're heading that way, I'd say give it a go for a casual catch-up with mates or a family meal; just keep in mind it might vary day to day, so maybe check the specials first. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint and bite in the Black Country.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is generally spot on, with classic British pub grub that's hearty and satisfying, especially their daily deals and kids' menu which makes it a winner for families.
-
Service is top-notch from what most folks say – friendly staff like Ellie, Chloe, Kieran, and others who make you feel right at home with a warm welcome.
-
It's a lovely spot for a relaxed vibe, with a great beer garden perfect for sunny days, and being dog-friendly means you can bring your furry mate along.
-
They've got a cracking atmosphere, ideal for groups, events, or even weddings, as one couple had a brilliant time in their function room.
-
Plenty of drink options from cask ales to cocktails, and it's conveniently located near Merry Hill Shopping Centre in the heart of the Black Country.
Cons
-
There have been a few slip-ups with food quality, like one disappointing experience with dry, reheated dishes and soggy batter, which really let things down.
-
Service can sometimes fall short, with reports of inattentive staff who weren't on top form, making for a less than ideal visit.
-
It might not always hit the mark for everyone, as the odd review highlights inconsistencies that could put a dampener on your outing.

The food, service and atmosphere at this place is always great in my experience at the hop, I’ve been here a few times now and always on point.
I’ve been served by Ellie, Chloe and Kieran who always make you feel welcome with a smile. I enjoyed the view of the waterfront on the rare occasion we have sunny weather, but when we do it’s a great place to spend your day.
🥂🍹🍸🍷🍾🍻 Had a couple games of pool and Darts too which were a bonus, definitely be coming back.
Good pub grub. Very nice staff.
Awful food. Day old Hunters Chicken which must have been reheated. Dry and hard. Soggy batter on fish. Batter on tinned mushrooms like bullets Old brown lettuce as garnish !!!!!
Terrible experience
No appropriate adult on duty just 3 kids laughing and giggling behind bar. Paid no attention to us at all
Realise now why we were the only patrons ….. makes sense
Pity we had to pay upfront

Disappointed
Me and my husband just had our wedding reception here in there function room just upstairs. It was absolutely amazing and the staff made sure everything went smoothly and helped us where ever they could. Big thank you to Tanya and the team and a big shout out to Aaron who regularly checked if we needed anything and Michelle for putting together such a beautiful buffet for us. Can't recommend these guys enough they were awesome!
Visited the Brierley hop house this afternoon and what a lovely pub! Staff are well presented and the menu has a lot of options to choose from! I went for the rocky road sundae that was to die for! 🤤
What a lovely way to spend your Sunday afternoon, will definitely be visiting again!
Thank you to Tanya and the team! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
