About This Pub

Ah, Brewery Arts Bar and Restaurant – it's one of those places in Kendal that just feels like a hidden gem, tucked away on Highgate. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute stars; they're always on hand to recommend a nice dark ale or make you feel right at home, which really adds to the warm, relaxed vibe. The food's another winner – think tasty lamb kebabs and outstanding cheesecakes that leave you wanting more, making it a great choice for a proper sit-down meal. On the flip side, though, some folks have mentioned the real ales can have a musty taste, which is a bit of a letdown and probably means they need to give their lines a good clean. Plus, it's a pity they've stripped out those old beer vats, as it took away some of that historical character that could have made it even more special. And watch out if you're driving; there's a parking fee, and the entrance isn't the easiest to spot, so you might need to plan ahead. All in all, it's worth a visit for a good night out, but go in with your eyes open to those little niggles – it's still got that charm that keeps people coming back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile and great recommendations – it's like chatting with mates behind the bar.
  • The food is a real highlight; dishes like the lamb kebab and cheesecake are spot on, with plenty of positive feedback on their quality and taste.
  • It has a lovely atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed evening out, whether you're just popping in for a drink or settling in for a meal.
  • The overall vibe is welcoming, with a solid 4.4 rating showing it's a favourite among locals and visitors alike.
Cons
  • Some of the real ales have a musty aftertaste, which suggests they might need to sort out their pipes and lines for a fresher pint.
  • It's a bit of a shame they've taken out the old beer vats, as that removed some of the historical charm that made the place unique.
  • There's a parking fee at the car park, which can add a small annoyance to your visit if you're driving.
  • Finding the entrance can be tricky, especially if you're not familiar with the area, so you might end up going round in circles.

Nice place and people but ALL of the real ales have a musty after taste. They need to clean their pipes and lines. Also it's such a shame they removed a lot of the character and history of the place when they removed the old beer vats, that people could sit inside.

Very pleasantly surprised at how nice it is here. Food was really great. I chose the lamb kebab mix. Really good. Cheese cake desert was outstanding. Definitely recommend people to try them. The staff were really friendly, accommodating and helpful.

Lovely atmosphere, great food and very pleasant staff. Highly recommend visiting if you are visiting the area. Carpark has a parking fee.

Couldn't quite make up my mind about this place: is it a restaurant or intended for bar food, is it ok just to have a beer, smart or casual or all of these things? Pleasant enough and glad I popped in one Saturday afternoon in February. Young lad behind the bar recommended a nice dark ale for me. There were a lot of staff dashing about 🤔

I popped in to scout it out for a show I'm attending soon. I was nearby, so I took the opportunity to find the Brewery Arts Centre in daylight as it'll be a dark evening when I attend. It took a few trips around the block to find the entrance, but I made it. I've sussed the car parking and found the entrance and theatre I'm going to. I also checked out the bar and restaurant along with the options available for booking a table and food. It would have been rude to have not sought refuge from the traditional Lake District down poor and the hoolie blowing outside. So, it's time for a cheese scone, Earl Grey tea, and a flapjack. That'll save me dealing with food later! All the staff that helped answer my questions, look at menus, and find my way around were superb. The facilities are brilliant and fully accessible. It's just off the A6 and M6, so I'm ready to roll. I'm more excited than ever to see my first show here now. Thanks, everyone!
