About This Pub

Ah, Farmhouse Kitchen in Kendal – it's one of those places that just feels right for a relaxed day out. From what I've gathered, the food really steals the show; think delicious sandwiches packed with fresh ingredients, hearty breakfasts, and even a side salad that's as tasty as it is crisp. The staff come across as genuinely kind, always ready with a smile and willing to bend the rules a bit to make your visit special. It's moderately priced too, which is a nice touch when you're out for a quick lunch or coffee. On the flip side, there was that one grumble about a greasy ciabatta, so it might not be perfect every time, and the early closing hours mean it's more of a daytime affair rather than a spot for lingering into the evening. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're in the area – I'd say give it a go for a proper Cumbrian cafe experience, but keep expectations realistic for those little niggles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, tasty options like goat's cheese sandwiches and tuna melts that leave you wanting more.
  • Staff are so warm and welcoming; they'll go the extra mile, like making an exception to serve you just before closing.
  • It's great value for a casual bite, with meals coming in under the cafe menu price and a solid selection of coffees and teas.
  • The atmosphere has a lovely contemporary Cumbrian farmhouse vibe, making it a cosy spot for a daytime catch-up.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit-or-miss, like that greasy sausage ciabatta one person mentioned, which might put you off.
  • It closes fairly early, around 5pm most days, so it's not ideal if you're after somewhere for an evening wind-down.
  • Ordering at the counter rather than having full table service might feel a tad informal for some folks who prefer a more relaxed setup.

Passing through Kendal at lunchtime when FHK made me an excellent sandwich from their menu 'to go' and eat all fresco; they did this swiftly and for less than their café menu price. It was *delicious* - goat's cheese and onion marmalade, with a tasty side salad. (See photo)

Stopped off after visiting the lakes for a quick breakfast. The young lady informed me that although they were suppose to be closing the kitchen at that moment but would make the exception to allow us to eat. Staff were very polite, warm, welcoming and kind and the food was amazing. Will visit again for sure.

Well £7.50. for a sausage ciabatta and bread was soaked in grease and sausages looked lost inside the ciabatta..? So if you like grease bread and some meat go for it. Staff friendly and atmosphere new age kitchen. Note to business owners criticism is what makes restaurants/eateries better if they use customer feedback as intended. All the best

September 2024: Spotted this place whilst passing through Kendal and decided to stop off for some lunch. Lovely cafe with great selection of food and drinks. After being shown to the table, you then need to order food at the counter - some people might not like this but I do as it means you can order without being put under pressure. Food was delicious and well presented. Venue itself had a relaxed atmosphere and was very busy. Only downside is that there was only one toilet and the tables were quite close together. Menu is reasonably priced, given the quality. Free wi-fi was available. Highly recommend a visit if in Kendal.

Food absolutely first rate. Pity they don’t open late (close at 5pm). Great service, great food. Loved the cheesy tuna melt jacket spud, side salad so fresh n tasty. Had an excellent accompanying English Breakfast Tea, extensive choice of coffees and specialty teas. Highy recommended.
