About This Pub
Ah, the Bold Forester – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Mansfield, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff are the real stars; they're incredibly attentive and make everyone feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or a full meal with the family. The food's another highlight – think hearty portions that hit the spot without costing a fortune, and it's all served up in a relaxed setting that's perfect for catching the big games or just unwinding after a long day. They've got loads of little touches too, like good facilities and a welcoming vibe for all ages, which makes it a go-to for a laid-back night out. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about the heating being a bit too fierce at times, which can make things uncomfortably warm, especially if you're there on a milder evening. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after good value and a friendly chat, but maybe keep an eye on the weather or dress light just in case – it's all about balance, isn't it?
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff at the Bold Forester are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, helpful, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome, which really adds to the cosy vibe.
-
The food is spot on; hearty, tasty dishes at a great price, perfect for a casual meal with family or mates without breaking the bank.
-
It's a family-friendly spot with plenty of facilities like disabled access, a car park, and even EV charging, making it easy to pop in for a bite or to catch some live sport.
-
They've got a lively atmosphere for events like pub quizzes and major sports, so it's ideal if you're after a bit of excitement while enjoying a pint.
Cons
-
The heating can sometimes be cranked up a bit too high, which might leave you feeling a tad uncomfortable on warmer days or in the evenings.
-
It might get a bit quiet or not too busy at times, which is nice for a relaxed visit but could feel lacking if you're in the mood for a buzzing crowd.

Absolutely a great place to go. The staff are amazing and really helpful. We visited with 11 people and all the food we ordered was excellent.
We love our little area tables 31 and 32, our favourite place. Us girls love to sit in our corner and converse. Staff always makes us welcome, even remember what we want before we do. Thanks 😊
Visited on bank holiday weekend, the Sunday. Staff were great, food was nice, and it wasn't too busy. We will return, and recommend.
Regular customer food is always great at a reasonable price, most of the times I've visited the heating has been on really high and it's unbearable, had a range of feels over the years and they've always been fantastic, would recommend if you want a better experience then weather spoons, would recommend you book a table
I will never not give this please 5* all round. The staff are incredibly friendly the managers that work here are always lovely to my family and my grandma who is elderly and always struggles to get about they are especially kind to her. We have been coming here for years and years and have never had a bad meal itself has the best value for money and you never go away hungry the portion sizes are great food and drinks are both cheap they also do blue light discount and there is often offers on. Great atmosphere all the time, sports is often on and good pool table too.
