About This Pub

Ah, the Boat Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Loughborough. I have to say, what really stands out is how it's tucked away next to the canal, giving you that peaceful waterside view while you're sipping on a pint. The staff are an absolute delight; they're always up for a bit of banter and make sure everyone feels looked after, which adds such a warm touch to the whole experience. The food's straightforward but spot on – think well-cooked pub classics that won't break the bank, and they've got a nice range of local beers to choose from, perfect for those who appreciate a good ale. The beer garden is a real winner too, with its covered spots making it usable even when the British weather decides to play up. On the flip side, it's mostly about traditional vibes here, so if you're in the mood for something fancy or innovative, you might find it a bit lacking. Plus, the hours can end a little earlier on some days, and it does get lively when it's busy, which might mean a wait for your favourite spot. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together or a quiet drink – I'd definitely pop back for more of that canal-side charm and friendly chats.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location right by the canal is absolutely spot on – it's perfect for enjoying a pint while watching the boats go by, making it a real treat on a sunny day.
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, always ready with a smile and a chat, which really makes you feel right at home.
  • They've got a great selection of local beers and solid pub grub that's cooked nicely and offers brilliant value for money.
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – clean, comfortable seating, and a pleasant vibe that's ideal for catching up with mates or relaxing after a walk.
  • It's got a proper beer garden with a covered area, so you can make the most of the outdoors even if the weather's a bit unpredictable.
Cons
  • The menu sticks to traditional pub fare, so if you're after something a bit more adventurous or gourmet, it might not quite hit the mark.
  • Opening hours can vary a touch, with some days wrapping up earlier, which means it might not be the spot for a late-night gathering.
  • It can get a tad busy during peak times, especially with its popularity, so you might have to wait for a table or a spot in the garden.

We stopped overnight on a canalboat holiday last year. Liked it so much that we diverted on another canalboat holiday this year to revisit. The food was really nicely cooked and great value for money pub grub. Staff are friendly and welcoming and they serve a great selection of local beers and ales.
