About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Blue Orchid – it's this charming Chinese restaurant tucked away on North Street in Romford, and from what I've gathered from the reviews, it's mostly a winner. Most people are raving about the food; it's packed with authentic Cantonese flavours, like the crispy duck or the sizzling fillet that's just spot-on. The staff really make the place feel welcoming, always ready with a smile and happy to recommend dishes or handle a big group without any fuss. With such a solid 4.6 rating from heaps of reviews, you'd be hard-pressed not to have a good time. But, to keep it real, there was that one review where someone was let down by bland, under-seasoned meals and small portions that didn't quite justify the moderate prices – it's a reminder that not every dish hits the mark. Still, if you're up for some reliable Chinese grub and don't mind the odd off day, I'd say it's worth popping in for a meal; just maybe skip the prawn crackers if you're feeling picky!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food at Blue Orchid is absolutely delicious and full of authentic Chinese flavours – think tasty dishes like kung po chicken and salted chilli king prawns that leave you wanting more.
  • The service is top-notch; the staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make your visit special, which really adds to the warm atmosphere.
  • With an overall rating of 4.6, it's clear that most folks have a brilliant time here, praising the quality ingredients and variety of options for groups.
Cons
  • A few dishes might fall short on flavour, like the beef in black bean sauce that one person found under-seasoned and similar to a microwave meal, which is a bit disappointing for the price.
  • Portion sizes can sometimes feel small, especially when you're paying around £20 for a meal, and there have been complaints about things like cheap-tasting prawn crackers.
  • It's a shame about that odd negative experience, as it shows not every visit is perfect, particularly if you're after consistently high-quality every time.

I order the beef in black bean sauce and egg fried rice. Very disappointed. Lacked flavour, under seasoned and tasted similar to a microwave meal. Prawn crackers tasted cheap and expired. I paid £20.80, for poor quality and small portion size. Service was great, food very poor. Won't be back.

Very tasty, authentic dishes. Staff very friendly and will go the extra mile without asking. Party of five, we had crispy duck, kung po chicken, lemon chicken, chicken satay, squid, Singapore noodles, egg fried rice, beef short ribs - and more! And all of it was delicious!

Delicious Chinese (Cantonese) food. Quality ingredients and very friendly staff. We ordered the Chicken with black bean sauce, salted chilli King prawns, salt and chilli bean curd and sizzling fillet Cantonese style. These king prawns were our favourite but all dishes were nice. Would definitely go back again.
