About This Pub

Ah, the Blue Bell in Nottingham – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute stars; they're quick on their feet and make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a cheeky quiz night or to catch the latest Lions tour on the big screen. The deals on food are spot on too – think tasty wings for a fiver or a full Christmas dinner that hits the spot without breaking the bank. It's dead family-friendly and even welcomes dogs, so it's ideal for a relaxed day out. But, let's keep it real, there have been a few grumbles about the food not always being up to scratch; one mate mentioned their Sunday roast was a letdown with skimpy portions and veg that needed a bit more time in the pan. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.3, it's clear most folks have a great time, and I'd say it's worth a visit for the atmosphere alone – just maybe skip the roasts if you're feeling peckish for something hearty. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub lovers looking for good craic without the fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's a brilliant spot for affordable grub and drinks, with great deals like those £5 chicken wings that keep you coming back.
  • The atmosphere is spot on for a relaxed catch-up with mates, families, or even your furry four-legged friends, being dog-friendly and all.
  • They've got loads of live sports on the telly, plus events like pub quizzes that add a fun buzz to the place.
  • The overall vibe is welcoming and family-oriented, with plenty of amenities like a car park and WiFi to make your visit smooth.
Cons
  • Some food experiences can be hit or miss, like the Sunday roasts where portions were tiny and veggies came out undercooked.
  • Certain dishes might not live up to expectations, such as reheated veg or turkey that felt more like sandwich filler rather than a proper meal.
  • It can get pretty busy, which might mean waits for service even if the staff are trying their best.
  • While generally good value, the occasional slip in food quality could leave you a bit disappointed if you're after something special.

Came for mothers day. Was very disappointed with the Sunday roasts.. mash portion was ridiculous. No bigger than a tablespoon serving.. veg was practically raw and the Carrots tasted like they was yesterday's reheated. And the turkey was sandwich filling. Not real turkey. Paid extra for the beef dripping gravy but they'd already put gravy on my dinner and then brought the beef dripping out separately. Seemed bizarre to me. Staff was great! Polite friendly and helpful.

We had a table for 4 on Christmas day 🎄 and had the Christmas menu and it was brilliant. What I liked was that the food all came to the table at the same time, it was really nice and hot and certainly plenty of it. 😋. The staff were really very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble for them. They certainly earned every penny they were paid. It was a nice atmosphere and we weren't rushed. I'll certainly go there again no more cooking for me on Christmas day. 😋😊

My family and I visited on Thursday, and we were all impressed with the food and service we received. When we arrived, the pub was heaving with people; the food smelt delicious throughout the venue. Especially the sizzling plate! Service was still reasonably fast despite how busy it was, which was excellent. Bar staff were friendly and approachable. The only downfall I felt was that my pint of orange and soda cost £3.60 (!!) - more than the mocktails which I may as well have had at a cheaper price. We enjoyed a main and a dessert each - the courses were of good size, and the food was tasty! Biscoff cheesecake especially delicious!
