About This Pub

You know, when you step into Blackshale Bar & Kitchen, it's like finding that perfect local haunt where everything just clicks. The food stands out as a highlight – think fresh, vibrant dishes like crispy beef noodles or a mouthwatering Sunday roast that's packed with quality and taste, all made from local produce that gives it that authentic feel. Pair that with their own craft beers and ales, and you've got a winning combination for a proper pub experience. The atmosphere is spot on too, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home, and it's ace for families or if you're popping in with the dog for some outdoor seating. On the downside, it does fill up quickly, especially for those Sunday lunches, so it's wise to plan ahead or you might end up disappointed. All in all, it's a solid choice in Nottingham if you're after good value, great company, and a bit of that independent pub charm, though keeping an eye on the crowds will make for a smoother visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch – freshly prepared with local ingredients, offering a wide range of modern British dishes that are full of flavour and come in generous portions.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always going above and beyond to make you feel welcome, which really adds to the cosy atmosphere.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of craft beers and cask ales, especially from their own brewery, making it a treat for beer enthusiasts looking for something special.
  • It's wonderfully family-friendly and dog-friendly, with outdoor seating and a welcoming vibe that's perfect for a relaxed get-together with loved ones.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy, particularly on Sundays or for popular meals, so you'll need to book in advance to avoid missing out.
  • While the menu is extensive, some might find that the options don't always cater to every taste or dietary need as seamlessly as hoped, based on a few mentions of preferences.

Great Sunday lunch, can highly recommend. Menus is extensive with plenty of tasty starters, and a wide selection of puddings. Staff are really friendly and service was excellent. Already booked to go back in a couple of weeks.

Fantastic place with a great menu (plenty of choice) and the staff is fabulous and attentive. Sunday lunch is wonderful, but you need to make sure to book as they get very busy. The White Lion (attached pub) has a great selection of real ales. And is a great spot to watch the football or rugby. Get yourself a free loyalty card and save on all drinks which makes it even better value. Can’t recommend highly enough. The outdoor space is also fab, and they have live music regularly both inside and out.

Was here for a Sunday roast a few weeks ago - absolutely blown away by the quality, quantity and amazing service from the staff at Blackshale. Will be returning as soon as I can to try the Sunday burger (which looks incredible). Everything in the roast tasted so fresh and flavourful; all at a very similar price to other inferior roasts I’ve had in the area. Thank you to the staff, both front of house and kitchen, for making it such a pleasant and enjoyable visit.

First time eating at the Blackshale and not the last! From first entering, the atmosphere and decor is fabulous. Duncan was friendly and funny and went above and beyond with his excellent service. The food was phenomenal. I had the Oxtail Croquetts as a starter and Chicken Supreme with the most creamy mash and not the packet stuff one gets in most pubs. The asparagus was cooked to perfection. My mom had salmon and it was a generous portion. We couldn't fit in pudding but I had my eye on the Eton Mess so have to return for that 😉 all in all we all left super happy and now have found our new place.

First time and won't be our last! Menu options were varied and catered for different dietary preferences and allergies - even the children's menu had several choices. Food was amazing with great portion sizes. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed each meal. Staff were friendly and efficient, clearing plates in a timely manner and came over a couple of times to takes drinks orders. Spoke to the manager whilst he was about and he was very friendly and chatty. Telling us about the refurb the pub had gone through and recommended a new IPA they had which was very nice. Only planned to be out of the house a couple hours and ended up spending most the afternoon there! Really lovely place, would highly recommend.
