About This Pub
Ah, the Black Horse in Bolton – it's one of those local gems that really pulls you in with its warm, community feel. From what I've gathered, it's spot on for a laid-back pint and watching the footy or rugby on those big HD screens; the staff sound like they're always up for a chat, and with deals on drinks and a family-friendly policy, it's easy to see why it's got such a solid 4.4 rating overall. They've got cocktails and a range of beers to suit most tastes, and the fact you can pop in with the kids or the dog makes it feel inclusive and down-to-earth. On the flip side, though, it's a shame they don't do food – you can bring your own, but that might not be everyone's cup of tea, especially if you're hoping for a bite to eat without the hassle. There've been a couple of mixed experiences shared, like some staff not being as welcoming as you'd hope or missing out on cask ales, so it's worth keeping in mind that it might not be perfect for every outing. All in all, if you're after a straightforward, affordable spot to unwind with friends over a drink and some sport, it's definitely worth a visit, but maybe plan ahead for dinner elsewhere to keep things balanced.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's a brilliant spot for catching live sports with HD screens showing Sky and BT, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening with mates.
-
They've got some cracking drink offers and a variety of options, including cocktails, all at affordable prices.
-
Being child and dog-friendly means it's easy to bring the whole family along, which is a lovely touch for a community pub.
-
You can bring your own food if you're peckish, which adds a bit of flexibility for a casual get-together.
Cons
-
They don't serve food on site, which might leave you a bit disappointed if you're after a proper meal with your drinks.
-
There have been a few reports of less than ideal staff behaviour in some reviews, which could put a damper on the vibe.
-
Despite having all those hand pumps, they don't offer cask ales, so if that's your thing, you might end up feeling let down.
-
The pub seems to rely heavily on drinks and sports, so if you're looking for more entertainment options, it might feel a tad limited.

Always a very good night in here. Very friendly people and staff. They don't serve food that's why I haven't rated it.
Barlady in there short hair 50s wearing glasses threatened a customer whilst I were in there. Quite disturbing behaviour from a bar person. Not very women friendly really, as you can see most reviews are by men.
After reading reviews about great beer and living close thought lets give it a go, a go is all it's getting, loads of hand pump facilities on show but they abruptly told me they don't do cask ales
