About This Pub
Ah, Bird in th’hand – what a gem it is for us pub enthusiasts in Darwen. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its fantastic range of craft beers and ciders; you could spend ages picking your favourite, whether it's a tangy rhubarb cider or a strong cherry beer that packs a punch. The staff are dead welcoming, always up for a chat, and the overall vibe is just spot on for meeting up with friends – imagine sinking into a comfy seat with a pint, sharing a laugh on a cold night or enjoying the sun in that enclosed beer garden. It's affordable too, so you won't feel guilty about staying for another round. On the flip side, though, it does have that very local feel, which might not suit everyone if you're popping in from out of town and the regulars are a bit tight-knit. Still, if you're after a proper, honest pub experience with great drinks and a homely atmosphere, I'd say give it a go – it's got that magic that keeps folks coming back, as long as you're up for embracing the community spirit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of beers and ciders is absolutely brilliant – from craft ales to imported bottles, it's a real treat for anyone who loves a good pint.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff that make you feel right at home, perfect for a laugh with mates.
-
It's got a cosy vibe that works for any weather, whether you're chilling in the beer garden on a sunny day or tucked inside on a rainy evening.
-
Being inexpensive means you can enjoy a few drinks without breaking the bank, which is always a winner for a casual night out.
-
Outdoor seating and a rear beer garden add a lovely touch, making it ideal for basking in the sunshine or just nipping out for a breather.
Cons
-
It can feel a bit too 'local' at times, which might make newcomers uncomfortable if the crowd's a tad cliquey.
-
The opening hours seem a bit inconsistent from what I've seen, so it's worth checking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Love coming here and sitting out in the sun. Great location! Love the rhubarb cider and tried the cherry beer this week and that was lush too, definitely felt it being 8%. Thankyou for our visits.
Award winning pub serving both in-house and other craft ales and ciders. Along with a huge selection of imported and locally bottled beers and ciders.
The ideal place to meet up with friends in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Why not call in, pick up a few bottles for your Xmas drink and try one or two of the potent drinks while you are there?
The pub is pet friendly, if you are supposed to be walking the dog... And the pooch needs a break.
What a selection of beers. Popped in with the wife once and went in last Saturday with pops for one of my favourite Belgian beers. Awesome if you fancy something different for a change and also now has outdoor seating and a rear enclosed beer garden area for basking in the sunshine, or nipping out for a smoke :)
