About This Pub

Ah, Bees Knees – it's one of those places that has its heart in the right spot, you know? I've heard from mates that the owner and bar team are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and handling things with real professionalism, which makes for a warm welcome when you're out for a pint. The decor's a nice touch too, feeling a bit more polished than some other local spots, and it's great for a laid-back afternoon or evening without the crowds. But, and I hate to say it, there are a few niggles that keep it from being a top pick – things like the toilets being in a bit of a state or floors that feel sticky underfoot, which can really spoil the mood. Plus, a couple of stories about getting turfed out unfairly or missing out on proper real ale options make me think it's not always the smoothest experience. All in all, if you're in Darwen and fancy giving it a go, it's worth a visit for the good bits, but maybe keep your expectations in check and head elsewhere if cleanliness is a big deal for you.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, knowledgeable, and really professional, making you feel right at home.
  • It's got a welcoming vibe with attractive decor that's a step up from similar spots, perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
  • On a good day, the pub feels nice and clean, especially if you're popping in for a quiet afternoon pint.
Cons
  • Hygiene can be a real letdown, with dirty toilets and sticky floors that might put you off your drink.
  • Some folks have had rough experiences, like getting kicked out for no reason, which leaves a sour taste.
  • It's a shame about the lack of real ale options, so if that's your thing, you might want to look elsewhere.

Few of us went in last night, first time I've been in since millstone. Worse toilets in Darwen pubs ,dirty and don't think they have been cleaned for weeks

Went in on a Saturday afternoon, pub was nice and clean, quiet, unfortunately the lack of real ale (none) at the bar stopped it from getting 5 stars 🍻

A short visit on a Thursday night.. It's much better than the one in Blackburn. Just the decor is more attractive than the one in Blackburn. The bar staff are also polite and more professional than those in Blackburn. Well done to the Darwen team.
