About This Pub

Ah, Beggar's Bridge – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot for a relaxed get-together with mates. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which makes the whole experience feel warm and inviting. The food's a standout too; folks rave about the generous portions and how tasty it is, especially if you're tucking into a Sunday lunch or something hearty. Plus, if you're into sports, the massive TVs and that sprawling beer garden make it a top choice for catching a game with a pint in hand. And let's not forget the handy location – dead easy to get to by train or car, with plenty of parking. On the flip side, though, there are a few things that might make you raise an eyebrow; that odd smell of drains near the entrance can be a bit off-putting, and some of the veggies in the dishes haven't always impressed, with complaints about them being bitter or overcooked. Waits can get long when it's packed, and if you're a craft beer enthusiast, the options might feel a tad underwhelming compared to the usual suspects. Still, with a solid 4.2 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear this place has more going for it than not. I'd say it's worth popping in for a visit – just keep those little niggles in mind and you'll have a grand time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are always friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is spot on with generous portions – perfect for a hearty meal after a long day.
  • It's a great spot for sports fans with massive TVs showing all the action.
  • The beer garden is massive and ideal for enjoying a drink outdoors on a sunny day.
  • The venue is clean and tidy, and the location's brilliant with easy access to public transport and parking.
Cons
  • There's sometimes a whiff of drains or sewage near the entrance and bar area, which can put a damper on things.
  • Some of the veg in the meals can be hit or miss, like bitter turnips or soggy carrots, even if the meat's spot on.
  • Wait times can drag on when it's busy, so you might need to be patient.
  • The beer selection is a bit basic, with mostly standard options and not much for those after craft brews.
  • That CCTV camera in the toilet feels a tad intrusive and uncomfortable.

Decent bar, good selection of beers. Staff friendly. Been in here a few times though and there is a smell of drains/sewage around where you walk in and the bar area.

Looking forward to trying sunday lunch £7 before 1pm . As reasonable as that didnt find veg very nice at all. The turnip was bitter , carrots soggy , cabbage mouthful , mash and green beans fine, and meat melt in mouth. Long wait , but was busy.

Service was polite and quick. Venue was clean and tidy. Food was quite good. The beer choice was mediocre, three bog standard cask options and typical draft options of standard lagers. Nothing for craft beer fans. On an uncomfortable note, there was a CCTV camera in the toilet positioned above the urinal which I hope is a dummy or questions to be asked about morality and legality of this.

Used the function room for my birthday venue. Staff helpful during the day to decorate tables etc. Hot and cold buffet very good.Excellent location for public transport and car park. Out door seating area if you want to step out for five minutes break from the dancing. Thank you to the staff for a excellent night.
