About This Pub

You know, when I think about Batley & Birstall R.A.F.A., it just feels like one of those hidden gems that really pulls you in with its warm community spirit. From what folks have shared, the staff are top-notch, always going the extra mile to create a lively and welcoming vibe – I can picture Susan and Sharon's evenings there, full of great chats and that buzzing energy from events like the Northern Soul nights. It's especially nice how supportive everyone is, making sure no one feels left out, which adds a real heart to the place. On the other hand, it's a bit of a shame about the building itself; it's got this faded elegance that could use some freshening up, as Andrea mentioned, and that steep access might put off a few people on a rainy day or if stairs aren't your thing. Still, with such a strong reputation, I'd say it's well worth popping in if you're nearby – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely fabulous and create a really welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
  • It's got a brilliant vibe, especially for events like Northern Soul nights, where the energy is infectious and the locals are so friendly.
  • The place is incredibly supportive and caring towards everyone, including those with mobility issues, which is a lovely touch.
  • With a high rating of 4.7, it's clear this spot delivers a great overall experience for a good night out.
Cons
  • The building's grandeur has faded a bit and could do with some upkeep to keep it looking its best.
  • Access to the venue is moderately steep, which might make it a challenge for some folks getting in or out.
  • There's not much of an online presence, so it can be tricky to find details or plan a visit in advance.

Beautiful building set on a rise, so access is moderately steep either by foot or being dropped off or picked up. Grandeur somewhat faded, as with many of these clubs, some money required to maintain. Access inside to upper level is at the front by steps up to a function room with great dance floor and at the other end by stairlift. Games room and lounge served by same bar and if bar upstairs not open then the friendly staff will serve you here. The main thing that needs updating is the toilet flooring as despite the cleanliness of the facilities is very unpleasant to look at. We love coming here for our events and that is the only thing that makes the ladies less than happy.

It was a quite night but the locals were very welcoming and friendly. They were also very supportive and caring to one lady in our group that had mobility problems.
