About This Pub

You know, when I think about the Barley Mow, it just brings a smile—it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper home away from home. Tucked away in the charming village of Clifton Hampden, near the Thames, it's got this wonderful historic feel that's perfect for unwinding with mates or treating the family. The food really stands out; think hearty pub classics and fresh seasonal dishes that hit the spot every time, all at prices that won't break the bank. And the team behind the bar and in the kitchen? They're an absolute gem, always cheerful and ready to make your visit special, whether it's with a cheeky birthday surprise or just a friendly chat. On the flip side, it's a bit off the beaten track, so if you're not up for a drive, it might take some effort to get there, and it does fill up quickly on weekends, meaning you'll want to sort out a table in advance. Plus, if you're hoping for a lively night owl spot, the closing times might cut things short. All in all, though, it's a cracking choice for anyone after a genuine, feel-good pub experience—honestly, once you're there, you'll see why it's so well-loved.

  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, going the extra mile with thoughtful touches like birthday cards and surprises.
  • It's a charming historic pub in a picturesque village near the River Thames, perfect for a cosy catch-up or family gathering.
  • They've got a lovely beer garden that's ideal for enjoying a pint on sunny days, especially with their new spring-summer menu.

Cons
  • Being in a rural spot, it might not be the easiest to reach if you're not driving or local to the area.
  • It can get quite busy, especially for popular events, so you might need to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
  • The operating hours wrap up fairly early in the evening, which could be a downside if you're after a late-night session.

Best place we have eaten in a very long time. Beautiful pub, excellent staff and wonderful food. So refreshing to visit a place with such high standards. Extremely good value too. Couldn’t fault it, would 100% recommend.

We visited today for a family birthday lunch. The food, service and atmosphere were fantastic. Even singing happy birthday to my sister and presenting her an ice cream desert with lit candle. Gabby our waitress was wonderful.

Booked this afternoon for my son’s birthday. When we checked in there was a card for him. Really nice touch! We were meant to be sitting inside but the weather was so beautiful we sat outside. Staff were so pleasant and accommodating. Food was fantastic. We all said we’ll be back soon.

We booked a lunch for quite a large family gathering on Saturday. Because of the size we were asked to pre-order, which was no problem, as we were very glad that they could accommodate us. We arrived and were given a lovely semi-private area, which was ideal. The whole team - including the sometimes forgotten kitchen brigade - did a brilliant job getting all our orders out in quick succession. The food was delicious, piping hot and beautifully presented. ALL the team were very friendly and professional and their excellent service made for a really special family occasion. I can thoroughly recommend the Barley Mow. Thank you to all of you.

When we visited on Tuesday 7th January From start to finish it was a really good experience, attentive staff Fiona & Sophie couldn't of done anymore for us. The food was amazing with generous portions and very reasonably priced. The food and service was that good we have booked to come back this Sunday with family.
