About This Pub

Ah, Barley Farm – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a reliable mate, you know? Tucked away in Eccles, not far from Manchester's hustle, it's got this welcoming charm that's perfect for a casual get-together or a family outing. The carvery really steals the show; imagine piling your plate high with juicy meats, crispy roasties, and all the trimmings – it's fresh, flavoursome, and hits the spot every time, especially if you're after that classic Sunday feel any day of the week. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to the homely atmosphere. Plus, with perks like free WiFi and a car park, it's dead easy to swing by for a quick meal or even a breakfast to kickstart your day. But, let's be straight, it's not flawless – there have been a few grumbles about waits for food or the odd dish not quite living up to expectations, like a steak that needed another flip on the grill or some underwhelming sides. Still, with such a solid overall feel and plenty of positive vibes from folks who've been there, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after good grub without breaking the bank – just keep an eye on the busier times to avoid any hitches.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The carvery is an absolute winner – generous portions of fresh, tasty meats and veg, perfect for a hearty meal that leaves you satisfied.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a brilliant spot for families, with a relaxed atmosphere, soft music, and facilities like indoor play areas and disabled access.
  • Great value for money, especially for a quick lunch or carvery deal – you get a lot for your pound.
  • Convenient location with easy parking, and it's open early for a proper breakfast to start your day off right.
Cons
  • Service can occasionally drag a bit, like when waiting for a dish to be recooked, which might frustrate you if you're in a rush.
  • Not every dish hits the mark; for instance, some sides like coleslaw have let things down, or meats might not be cooked exactly as ordered.
  • It can get a tad quiet during off-peak times, which is nice for a chat but might feel a bit lacking in buzz on slower days.

Had a mountain of food on my plate, after getting a carvery for my birthday. We were served by Kay and everything was perfect with all of our orders - food has been consistently good from here, music not too loud for general conversation, and the selection of food available was excellent. Will be back again soon

We visited the Barley Farm on the way from Bolton to Kettering. Let’s face it who wants to visit motorway services? We had the lunchtime carvery for 3 of us for just under £30. The atmosphere is just nice with friendly staff and soft music playing in the background. I highly recommend the Barley Farm.

We ordered two steaks around 7.00 pm which took 15/20 mins to come to the table … then the steak my wife ordered medium /well done came pinky/ bloody so she sent it back … it then took over ten mins maybe more to get it out again all it needed was re grilling a bit more … by this time I’d eaten my steak which I ordered medium which was pinky in most parts …. Clearly not a mistake as staff claimed that we’d mixed up the steaks … mine was a rump steak and the waitress said it was rump and my wife’s she said sirloin …. When my wife’s cane back it wasn’t medium / well done and she left mist of it … terrible food and service nit great but kitchen chef to blame as he/ she cooked it wrong … considering what this group claims to deliver it was shocking to get such service and no one offered to give a refund ir apology but tried to blame us !!

Got there at lunchtime and it was lovely and quiet. I went for the standard carvery and the other half had the chicken burger. The carvery was lovely and fresh with good sizes of meat. The chicken burger was good, apparently, but the coleslaw let it down. All in all a good quick stop off for a lunch that was hot and a good size. The cake slices were huge!
