About This Pub

Ah, Bar Retro – it's one of those places in Scunthorpe that you hear about and think, 'Why not give it a go?' From the reviews I've had a look at, it's got this buzzing atmosphere with music that's an absolute belter, mixing things up to keep the night interesting. The staff behind the bar come across as genuinely warm and chatty, which makes the whole experience feel more like catching up with mates than just another night out. It's particularly nice to see it's appealing to a broader crowd, including those of us who might not be up for the wildest scenes anymore. But, let's be straight, there are a couple of downsides that could trip you up – like the door staff who've been called out for being a bit confrontational in some cases, which is a real shame as it might sour the start of your evening. Plus, with it only opening on Sundays, it's not the most flexible spot for spontaneous plans. All in all, with a solid 4.2 rating, I'd say it's worth popping in if you're in the mood for a good time, just go in with your eyes open and maybe plan around those limited hours.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The bar staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat and making you feel right at home.
  • The music is fantastic with a great variety, perfect for getting everyone on the dance floor and keeping the energy high.
  • It's a really fun spot for a night out, especially if you're after a lively atmosphere and some hidden gems in Scunthorpe.
  • Seems like a welcoming place for older folks, with one reviewer mentioning it's good for us who aren't quite as young as we used to be.
Cons
  • There are some reports of the door staff being rude and obstructive, which could really put a downer on your evening before you've even got inside.
  • It's only open on Sundays from 9 PM to 4 AM, so your options are pretty limited if you're planning a midweek outing.
  • A few mentions of the place getting quite rowdy, with one person noting they were already a bit worse for wear upon arrival, which might not suit everyone.

Door staff are obnoxious. Obstructive, confrontational and rude…..don’t waste your time! Doorman on the left is responsible for when a loan vunerable unable woman identified herself….and his response was ‘I don’t care’…..absolutely shameful and disgusting behaviour from a so called professional!
