About This Pub

You know, when I think about Alexander Pope, it just feels like that hidden gem in Twickenham where you can unwind after a day out – picture yourself sipping on a Lillet Rhubarb Rosé spritz in their garden, or tucking into a proper breakfast with a view of the river. The staff are genuinely lovely, always ready with a smile and a helpful tip, and the rooms have this comfortable, homely charm with all the little extras that make you feel pampered. It's spot on for families or even bringing the dog along, and the location's brilliant for nipping into town or catching some live sport. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few folks mention the odd creaky floorboard keeping them up, and it does lean more towards a hotel vibe rather than a buzzing pub scene, so it might not be the place for a raucous night out. All in all, it's a welcoming spot that does a cracking job at blending relaxation with good grub, but keeping those noise issues in mind will help you have the best time possible.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always warm, helpful, and go out of their way to make you feel right at home, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
  • The rooms are spot on; clean, comfy beds, and lovely little touches like a selection of teas, coffees, and even a mini bar, making it feel quite homely.
  • It's in a fantastic location by the River Thames, just a short stroll from Twickenham's attractions, perfect for exploring or catching some rugby.
  • The food and breakfast options are top-notch, with everything from hearty meals to special packages like the Sip, Supper & Snooze deal that includes drinks and dinner.
  • Family and dog-friendly features make it a great spot for a relaxed getaway, with plenty of space and activities to enjoy.
Cons
  • Some rooms can be a bit noisy with squeaking floorboards and sounds from other guests, which might disrupt a peaceful night's sleep.
  • As it's primarily a hotel, the pub and restaurant elements feel a tad secondary, so if you're after a lively pub atmosphere, it might not quite hit the mark every time.
  • Operating hours aren't clearly specified, which could leave you guessing about when to pop in for a drink or a meal.

A lovely hotel in a quiet area, yet still not far from central attractions. The staff were wonderful and did everything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The breakfast was excellent, with everything we could have wished for. We will stay again and recommend to anyone.

Nice clean and tidy with a very homely feel.. Clean tidy and well maintained. We enjoyed our stay here. Nice selection of teas and coffee in the room and also a mini bar. (Pay as you go) Comfy clean and tidy. Decent tech used for the taps in the bathroom and shower nice design. Good touches and a warm stay. If I was in the area again I would stay 💯! Breakfast in the morning was great with a good choice of cereals.. fruit and juice drinks also full English was yummy! Could really fault it apart from the air conditioning didn’t seem to work correctly so had the window open all night and noise from the road. Apart from that was all good!

We had a fantastic experience at Alexander Pope. The staff was warm and professional, and our room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully located with the stunning view of the river. It was a special occasion and before we checked in, we had a family lunch at the gorgeous table in the atrium. This was a highlight—fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked dishes, and excellent service. Very attentive lady manager, she made us feel special! Breakfast in the morning was just as excellent with a lovely young lady pleasantly looking after us. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing stay and great food. We’ll definitely be back!

Favourite hotel to stay in London, stayed here when visiting the Stoop and also Twickenham. Easy to get to either from Strawberry Hill, or Twickenham train station. Staff are lovely and helpful, which is another one of the reasons why I choose to stay here. Couldn't recommend it highly enough

An absolutely charming hotel, with gorgeous rooms, delightful and eclectic interiors and a great beer garden out front. The food was very nice, all meals were good quality and enjoyable. I've just taken a star off as the rooms were quite noisy with lots of squeaking floorboards and loud movement heard from rooms next door and above.
