About This Pub

Ah, the Alexander Pope – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its riverside location in Twickenham, where you can sit back with a pint and watch the world go by. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really steals the show; think hearty Sunday roasts that leave you satisfied, fresh burgers that hit the spot, and a menu that's full of seasonal twists to keep things interesting. The drink selection is spot on too, with plenty of options for those going alcohol-free, which is great if you're driving or just fancy a lighter night. Service-wise, it's mostly cheerful and efficient, making you feel looked after, though it can slip into casual mode when it's quiet, which might not suit everyone. On the flip side, while it's family and pet-friendly with a nice garden for kids to play or dogs to roam, the limited parking and proximity to a busy road can take the edge off that idyllic feel – you might hear a bit more traffic than you'd like. Overall, it's a solid choice for catching live sports, especially rugby, or even for a quick overnight stay in their comfy rooms, but it's worth noting those little imperfections to set expectations right. If you're heading out for a pint with mates or a relaxed meal, I'd say give it a go – it's got that warm, community spirit that makes pub visits memorable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is absolutely spot on, right by the Thames in Twickenham – it's such a charming spot for a relaxed pint or a meal with that riverside vibe.
  • The food is a real highlight; fresh, tasty dishes like those Sunday roasts and burgers have folks raving, and they've got a great selection of drinks, including some cracking alcohol-free options.
  • Service is generally warm and welcoming, with staff being friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.
  • It's super family and pet-friendly, with options for kids and dogs, plus a lovely garden area that's perfect for soaking up the sun.
  • If you're into sports, it's brilliant for catching live matches, especially rugby, in a lively atmosphere with a cold one in hand.
  • The bedrooms are comfy and modern, ideal if you're looking to stay over after a good night out.
Cons
  • One or two dishes might not hit the mark every time, like that soggy veggie roast pastry mentioned – it's a shame when the rest is so good.
  • Service can feel a bit too casual at times, especially if the place isn't busy, which might leave you wanting a tad more attention.
  • Parking is free but limited, so you might end up hunting for a space, which can be a hassle on busier days.
  • Being near a main road means it's not the most peaceful setting, with some background noise that could disrupt the riverside charm.

Love this pub, such a nice location and decor, great food and drink choices (especially alcohol-free!) - all the food was very fresh and tasty. The veggie roast pastry was on the soggy side but the filling was really delicious! The service was also very good. Would definitely return 😊

Popped in for a bite to eat for lunch by the river in the glass-fronted Garden Room - very empty so surprised by the slightly too casual service. However the food was delicious - I had scallops (starter) + triple cooked chips and not only were the scallops prepared and cooked brilliantly but they came with piles of samphire and mushrooms, so it was really more of main course. Partner had the Pope's beef burger and a bloody mary - it all disappeared! Nice little place to stop by, and possibly completely different ambience than on a Wednesday lunchtime.

Had a lovely Sunday roast (chicken) yesterday, was delicious. My partner and I shared a portion, more than enough to serve two people. Would happily return.

This hotel/pub it was a nice random place that surprised us with a delicious burger and a nice kind of relaxing atmosphere. Kind of because it is by the main road, but relaxing because it was sunny, you can see Thames river over the road and enjoy a pint and some food. The staff was friendly, quite helpful, and polite even they were massively understaffed and they were running all over. The management should do their job better and not exploy their people, but ot might be the exception as it was a sunny day and lots of people joined us so this time I will not consider this in my review. We will update it if we return, and it will be a similar situation. Parking is available on the back of the hotel or on the side streets, but with limited access.

Nice environment with free parking but limited spaces. Excellent for weekend brunch! Price is good. There is a lake side children playground and green for a walk. Pet friendly!
