About This Pub

Ah, the Actress & Bishop – it's one of those places in Birmingham that really gets the heart racing with its energetic vibe and top-notch live events. I've heard from folks that it's an absolute gem for music lovers, with regular gigs from local talents that keep the energy high and the nights memorable. The terrace is a real winner too; imagine sipping on a well-priced pint while chatting away with your mates under the stars – it's just spot on for social gatherings. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing. Some evenings, the door staff can come across as a bit heavy-handed, which might leave you feeling a bit deflated before you've even stepped inside. And if you're hoping for a cosy seat, you might end up jostling for space or standing around, especially when it gets busy. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.2, it's clear that most people have a good time, though recent feedback suggests things can be hit or miss. All in all, if you're up for a fun night with live tunes and a lively crowd, it's worth a punt – just go in with your eyes open and maybe plan for a backup if the service doesn't quite hit the mark.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The lively atmosphere and vibrant music scene make it a top spot for enjoying live gigs and a buzzing night out in Birmingham.
  • They've got a spacious terrace that's perfect for catching up with mates over drinks on a nice evening.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, with a decent selection that includes options like Staropramen, and the bar staff can be really friendly and welcoming.
  • It's open late into the night, which is brilliant if you're after a place that keeps going when others are winding down.
  • The events like speed quizzes and live performances add a fun, entertaining twist to your visit.
Cons
  • Some of the door staff can be a bit rude or overly strict, which might put a dampener on your evening right from the start.
  • Seating can be quite tight, making it tricky to find a comfy spot if you're not up for dancing or standing.
  • It sometimes attracts a few odd characters, especially later at night, which could make things feel a tad unpredictable.
  • Service isn't always consistent, with a couple of reviews mentioning feeling treated poorly, so it might not be reliable every time.
  • While the music and events are great, the overall vibe can vary, and it's not ideal if you're after a quiet, relaxed pint.

Decent enough late night bar, was open until 2am of the Tuesday when we were there. Seems to attract some characters round midnight, but that just adds to the vibe IMHO.

Actress & Bishop is a bar nightspot with a dancefloor and loud music playing over the speakers. The music can be pretty good, the selection of drinks is quite nice and the outdoor smoking terrace is lovely. If you don’t fancy a dance, seating can be a bit tight, and you do get some strange ones in here but other than that i would recommend.

We walked in for a couple drinks. They had a speed quiz on which seemed like a lot of fun. The quiz host was very funny and entertaining. A pint of Staropramen was reasonably priced and the lad that served us was very friendly. Looking forward to going in there again.

Been here a few times for a pint or two, however the bouncer on the door was unnecessarily rude last Saturday! Have always taken my pint outside to the smoking area with me in the past but yesterday I was met with a passive aggressive bouncer saying 'its not rocket science, you can't take your glass outside' absolutely no need for the rude comment when I had only just been there for about ten minutes. Will not be returning now.

Service was fine, great atmosphere. However, the door staff were extremely rude and I was treated and spoken to like a child. This was my second visit and I will not be returning, I would highly recommend other places like Button factory, rolling mill, The church.
