About This Pub
Ah, Ye Olde Leathern Bottel – what a lovely find in Wednesbury! From the moment you walk in, you're enveloped in that classic Black Country charm, with its rich history and old-school feel that had me thinking of family tales over a pint. The staff are an absolute delight, always polite and eager to make you feel at home, and the real ales are spot on, especially if you're after something traditional and well-poured. It's brilliant for a casual afternoon or evening with mates or family, serving up simple, tasty grub like cobs that go down a treat without any pretentious nonsense. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't keep things updated on apps like the real ale finder, so you might have to play it by ear with what's available, and without a website, it's not the easiest to plan ahead. Still, with such high praise from folks who've been going for years, I'd say it's well worth a visit – just go with an open mind and enjoy the buzz of a proper local spot.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The history and charm of this pub are absolutely delightful – it's like stepping back in time, with a real sense of the Black Country's heritage that makes every visit feel special.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile and a chat, which really adds to that welcoming, community feel.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of real ales, and from what I've heard, they're kept in top condition – perfect for anyone who appreciates a good pint.
-
It's a great spot for a casual get-together; the simple food like cobs and pizza hits the spot without any fuss, and the locals are always up for a friendly natter.
Cons
-
It doesn't seem to update apps like the real ale finder, so you might turn up hoping for a specific brew and end up surprised by what's on tap – a bit of a letdown if you're set on something particular.
-
There's no website listed, which makes it tricky to check the latest hours or menu in advance; you'd have to pop in or call to get the full picture.
-
The operating hours in the info look a tad confusing with multiple listings for Sundays, so it might be worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment on a quiet day.

What a gem. My dad used to go for drinks with his brothers here. So I wanted to go to see it for myself and take family. But honestly the history of the place and the fact it's still going . It really needs to be advertised on an history website or through black country museum or something to draw in more in the day as it needs to be kept and not lost as so many traditional pubs are going. Friendly people (as you should expect from us black country folk) obviously nice for myself to be where my family had been. But as a rich historical building from 1500s people need to know and drop in .
Lovely atmosphere, Staff were really helpful and polite. Really lucky to have such an historic pub on our doorstep
Great real ale pub, that has loads of old charm and character. Good selection of ales, however never updates the 'real ale finder' app so never sure what's on the pumps. In saying that, walked into Titanic Plum Porter last night ,one of my favorite ales and Oakham Citra . The bar food is a choice of massive cobs (see photos).
I would definitely recommend this place.

Great Black Country Pub. Popped in for an afternoon pint and a cob. The beer is really well kept. They serve pizza and cobs so by no means a gastro pub but who wants that anyway? Locals were really pleased to have us in there and very friendly. Great place, glad it's here.
When I was about 25 I used to drink a lot around the wednesbury area and I have been to this pub on a number of occasions. A good old fashioned pub. Serves a good selection of beers and has hot tasty home cooking. You can have a great night out with the family or friends.
