About This Pub
Ah, Ye Olde John O'Gaunt – it's one of those timeless pubs in Lancaster that you stumble upon and think, 'Now that's a proper spot for a pint.' From what I've gathered chatting about it, the place really shines with its brilliant atmosphere; imagine popping in during a music festival and finding the room buzzing with energy, where even a massive two-pint glass of beer feels just right for the occasion. The staff are usually spot on, serving up a good mix of drinks at fair prices, and those comfy booths make it ideal for settling in with friends for a laugh. Plus, the live music and well-run open mics add a real spark, drawing in all sorts for a memorable night. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – there have been a few tales of staff getting a bit short-tempered, like over ID checks, which could put a dampener on things if you're not prepared. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a good time out, as long as you go in with the right expectations and keep an eye out for the occasional off moment.

We interrupted the bartender's smoke break in the door so she argued with us over IDs for 2 minutes. She then kicked us out and said we wouldnt get served in any other pubs (we proceeded to be served in the next 8 pubs with no issues).
Wow, what a great place with such a brilliant atmospere. Visited during the Lancaster music festival and it was by miles the best atmosphere of all the venues we visited. It was the 1st time I'd seen / ordered 2 pint sized glasses of beer, but OMG they were needed. The place was absolutely rammed, which meant getting to the bar was a nightmare, hence 2 pint glasses being a great thing!😄 There is a little stage at the front where the bands played, the interaction with the crowd was brilliant by the bands and it was simply a great cracking.
This was a classic pub to go for a drink at, one of the ancient Ye inns across the UK! The music playing really boosted the atmosphere and the drinks were laid out well at the counter, where I was served by a friendly staff member. I had a quality Dead Fingers passion fruit drink with a Pepsi mix, a rarity that was quality and cleanliness was maintained entirely!
Great place. Their open mics are well run, welcoming and friendly even if you’re from the other side of the planet. Drinks are reasonably priced and there’s a good selection. I also really like the set up of the place. The booth seating is comfy and cozy. It’s a great place to get to know the fun and friendly folk of Lancaster.
Excellent pub! Great bartenders! And superb music! We were lucky enough to walk by the pub and we heard live music being played! That's it, and we walked in straight! Amazing ambience and atmosphere! The band playing the music was superb, but there was a German mouth organ player joined em later! That German dude was just wow!
