About This Pub

So, chatting about The Jailor's Barrel, it's one of those pubs in Lancaster that just feels like a hidden gem, you know? From the reviews, folks are raving about the brilliant selection of beers and ales – there's everything from craft brews to ciders, and it's all top quality, making it a proper treat for anyone who appreciates a good pint. The staff really stand out too; they're attentive and friendly, with stories of bar staff like Mia going above and beyond to make cocktails and chats memorable. It's got this cosy, stylish vibe that's ideal for kicking back, whether you're there for an open mic night or just enjoying the calm on a stormy evening. Prices are fair as well, so you won't feel short-changed. On the downside, though, the operating hours look a tad messy with conflicting times, especially for Sundays, and it might wrap up earlier than you'd hope. Plus, it seems the experience could vary depending on who's behind the bar, which is a bit of a shame if you're banking on that personal touch. All in all, it's a solid spot for a pint and a laugh, but worth checking the details first to make sure it fits your plans – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The selection of beers and ales is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic range of cask options, craft brews, and ciders that really hit the mark for any ale enthusiast
  • The staff are brilliant and so attentive – think top-notch service with friendly faces who know their stuff, making every visit feel welcoming and personal
  • It's got that cosy, comfortable atmosphere that's perfect for settling in with a pint, especially on a cold evening or during events like the open mic nights
  • Prices are reasonable for the quality, like grabbing a pint for just £4.60, which feels like great value without breaking the bank
  • The overall vibe is calm and stylish, with a lovely interior that makes it a must-visit for anyone after a relaxed spot in Lancaster
Cons
  • The operating hours seem a bit confusing based on the info, with multiple times listed for Sundays and a typical close around 4 PM, which might not suit late-night plans
  • It could depend on specific staff being there for the best experience, as one mention suggests the magic might not be the same without them

Mia was absolutely amazing. Very attentive, made two amazing limoncello spritz. Would definitely come back, only! If Mia is still here. Otherwise I will not because what’s the point. Amazing customer service, wonderful attitude, she deserves all the praise and definitely a promotion as she is the only reason I would come back to this bar. I love her. Such great conversation and an amazing bar staff. A credit to your company. Hire more Mias. I love her. Please keep her and I’ll come back and spend more money.

My favourite pub in Lancaster- a city full of great pubs. Great cask ales as well as craft beers and ciders, etc. The open mic session on Wednesdays is always top quality. Top Class!

A really nice cosy alehouse. A very comfortable place to sit and enjoy a beer. On a cold winter’s evening waiting for a train I had a pint of Lancashire Blonde. A really good beer at only £4.60. Brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff.

Such a calm and stylish bar. The beers on offer are extensive and great quality. The barman was really friendly and clearly knew his stuff about the drinks on offer. We luckily had a thunderstorm during our visit, so had to stay for a few extra rounds of drinks. A must visit if you like good quality beer and a comfortable, stylish vibe.

Lovely atmosphere as always. Inside decoration didn't changed much, still looking great under the new name. Excellent choice of beers and wines. Staff are very friendly and polite, quick service. We had nice time and will be coming for more. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
