About This Pub
Ah, Ye Olde Greene Manne – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a classic British country spot, tucked away in Rickmansworth with its rich history dating back possibly to the 1700s. I have to say, the atmosphere is just lovely; imagine sipping a pint by a crackling log fire or lounging in that beautiful garden on a clear day, especially after a wander around nearby attractions like the Chiltern Open Air Museum. The food gets a big thumbs up too – hearty favourites and seasonal treats that go down a treat, paired with a great selection of drinks that cater to all tastes. From what I've seen in the reviews, it's often a hit for celebrations, with staff like Scarlet or Monique going above and beyond to make things special, which is heartwarming. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there are times when the service falls flat, like when it's packed and you're left waiting without much of a welcome, which can be a bit disappointing. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.3, it's clear most people leave with a smile, so if you're popping by, I'd say go for the charm and keep an eye on the busier periods for the best experience. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic charm of Ye Olde Greene Manne is absolutely enchanting, with its old English vibes and even a spot in films like Withnail & I – it's like stepping back in time.
-
They've got a beautiful garden that's perfect for a sunny afternoon pint, and it's dog-friendly too, making it ideal for a stroll in the countryside.
-
The food is spot on with hearty pub classics and seasonal dishes, plus a well-stocked bar with cask ales, fine wines, and British gins that hit the mark.
-
From the reviews, the staff can be wonderfully welcoming and attentive, especially for special occasions like birthdays, adding a real personal touch.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit inconsistent; some folks mentioned staff being too rushed to offer a proper hello or help, which puts a damper on things.
-
There might be waits for tables even with a booking, as one review highlighted a frustrating delay that left a sour taste.
-
Outdoor seating is a highlight, but it's all down to the weather – if it's raining, you might miss out on that garden charm and end up indoors.

Scarlet was a fantastic character behind the bar. We came in for a celebration of my wife’s new job and stayed the whole evening talking to the regulars and enjoying the pub. Shame about the weather I was really looking forward to having a drink outside in their large garden
Stopped by with no booking on a busy lunchtime, there was a function on and it was a sunny day. We were served promptly, staff friendly and helpful. We sat out side and there were lots of free tables. They offer 2 courses for £18.50 and 3 for £23 . We tried the prawn cocktail starter which was very good and the portion was big. The crispy calamari bites were NOT good ! Chewy and not good flavour.
However the Fish and. Hips main course was great. Tasty big piece of Fish, tasty sling in chunky chips (not many chips , just enough) . I had the chicken , bacon and avocado salad which was a generous size and served well- the chicken was warm , the bacon crispy and fresh. We opted for mini puddings and hot drinks as our after- even the mini portions were decent sizes . The cappuccino was so-so but the teas were great, large pots not just a single cup. Shaun and his team were really good , went out of their way to sort out an issue with our bill (our fault not theirs) and never dropped the ball once despite being rushed off their feet. All in all a very good visit, we will definitely return
Lovely eve celebrating my cousins birthday, food was lovely and service was even better.
Shout out to Monique (sorry if that’s not how you spell it) for the cake set up ❤️
Will definitely go back when in the area next
Warm welcome? Not a chance.
Staff are too busy to say Hi or to help. Infact 5 members of staff around the bar could not point me and my family to a table for 12 minutes. It's customer service at its worse.
We arrived at 4.15pm for our 4.15pm booking. We are told to wait. Multiple members of staff go past us, no other customers waiting to be seated, circa 5 free tables, yet we waited 12 minutes, only for a waitress to nod a signal to let us know we can sit at the table she just wiped, and left wet!
At 4.31pm we asked a waitress if we can order starters - none of the staff are interested in serving you until you call them and even then you feel like you've asked for a miracle.A random waitress tells us that Rachel will come and take our order. Order is eventually taken by Rachel.
The food is very good. Fish is outstanding and chips were a tad undercooked. Chirzo is outstanding, calamari is NOT very good. Look at the photos, it's poor at over £7. But the entire experience is ruined with rude, misserable and unhelpful staff who clearly need customer service training.
Upon exit I ask who the manager is. Shaun tells me that he is the manager but does not proceed to enquire as to why I am asking.
Whilst we were there, the table next to us gets drink delivered a long time after ordering with an appology from Shaun and I beleive on the house. In a seperate instance a lady is complaining around 4 members of staff at the bar.
Whilst the fish was outstanding, £85 for 2 adults and 1 child is not worth the money for service which is absolutely pathetic at best. I would reccomend that the owner provides customer service training to all staff, including endeavours to ensure that ALL custoners receive a warm welcome with better communication and, god forbid, a smile!
First time visit.
Very cosy pub. We ordered two starters each for four people, along with mini dessert, including hot drinks. Food very tasty.
Staff were polite and accommodating towards our needs and had a chuckle at our order. It's quite different for me but enjoyable.
There are plenty of car parking spaces.
Would definitely go again and recommend a visit.
