About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Winston Churchill; it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that just hits the spot for a laid-back get-together. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food is a standout – people are raving about the homemade roasts, which they've called the best in Yorkshire, and the fish and chips are spot on with generous portions and brilliant value. It's all served up with a smile from the staff, who seem to go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, creating that warm, homely atmosphere we all love in a good pub. The drink selection is another plus, with a nice range of ales, wine, and gin to choose from, making it easy to settle in for a chat. On the downside, it does have a habit of closing up early if things aren't buzzing, so if you're planning a night out, you might want to get there sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. And with no website to speak of, it's a bit of a faff to get the latest details online. All in all, it's got that excellent 4.7 rating for a reason, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind for a smooth visit – I'd say it's ideal for a hearty meal and a catch-up with mates, as long as you time it right.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious roasts and fish and chips that are cooked to perfection, with great value deals like two meals for £16.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening out.
  • A solid selection of drinks, including tasty ales, wine, and gin, which adds to the overall charm of the place.
Cons
  • It can close early if it's quiet, so it's probably best suited for afternoon or early evening visits rather than late nights.
  • There's no website or much online presence, which might make it tricky to check menus or hours before heading over.

Best for afternoon and early evenings since they can close early if it's quiet. Friendly staff. I've not eaten here since the new owners took charge, so I can't say too much about it, but it doe s seem popular.

Fish and chips are delicious and great value, 2 for £16 with mushy peas or curry sauce and bread and butter. Always great food here whatever we order.
