About This Pub
Ah, the Windmill – it's one of those hidden gems you stumble upon and think, 'Why didn't I know about this sooner?' From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really steals the show; think delicious burgers, sharer starters like mini soup and squid, and proper home-made mains that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. The atmosphere is just lovely, with friendly faces serving up a wide range of drinks and that upstairs outdoor space that's great for a sunny afternoon. But, let's be straight, it's not all perfect – parking can be a right faff with limited spots, and on busier days, they might be a bit under the weather with staffing, which could mean slower service or a less polished welcome. Overall, it's a solid choice for a meal out with mates, as long as you plan ahead and keep expectations realistic – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, just for those standout dishes alone.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh local ingredients and dishes that are authentic, original, and taste as good as they look – perfect for a hearty pub meal.
-
It's got a warm and welcoming atmosphere, especially with that partly enclosed outdoor area upstairs, making it a lovely spot for a relaxed get-together.
-
Friendly staff and a great selection of drinks, including cocktails and specials, add to the enjoyable experience.
-
Reasonably priced for what you get, and it's clear they've put real passion into the place, with excellent chefs creating home-made treats.
Cons
-
Parking is a bit of a nightmare, with very limited spaces on the road, which can put a dampener on arriving for your visit.
-
They sometimes seem short-staffed, leading to things like dirty glasses piling up or a less than enthusiastic welcome behind the bar.
-
The bar and dining area inside is on the small side, so it might feel a tad cramped when it's busy.

What a little gem of a pub/restaurant. On a back road on the edge of Wymeswold. The bar and dining g area inside isn't very big but go up some stairs and there is a whole other outside area, some partly enclosed. They have a full team of chefs and the food is reasonably priced and beautifully prepared, presented and really tasty. Can thoroughly recommend. 👍

Will definitely be back and 💯 recommend.
Me and my partner came here for a Sunday lunch, set in a nice village but parking wasnt great, very limited space on the road. We walked in to clearly see they were short staffed, the small bar was full of dirty glasses and was met by a lukewarm reception from the manager behind the bar. The pub itself was quaint but very dark and gloomy. It has a lovely multi level garden where we decided to have our drinks and food, cocktail was missing a key ingredient and the food was average which didnt justify the price. Cleanliness was not up to standard, womens toilets had no lock on the door. Our waiter was a young fair haired guy with glasses who was very friendly and had great customer service. With a few tweaks this place could be the kind of high standard country pub it should be, overall not sure we would go again but we are grateful for the positive aspects. Thank you
Lived in the area for a long time and only came across The Windmill Inn a week ago. Really nice place, so much better than the chain pubs now all over the place. Warm environment, friendly staff and very nice food. Had a three-course meal and couldn’t fault it. Everything seemed home-made and was very tasty.
Only cheeky mention would be a request to add two scoops of ice cream instead of one to the double chocolate cookie desert as gets a bit dry when the single scoop runs out.
Great place, thoroughly recommend eating here.
