About This Pub

You know, I had a great time at Windmill Brixton the other night, and it's just the sort of place that makes you appreciate the independent music scene in South London. They've got an incredible lineup of gigs happening most evenings, from emerging bands to themed nights, and it's all so affordable – tickets are usually just a fiver or so. The crowd's a real mix, which keeps things interesting and inclusive, and I loved the outdoor backyard for grabbing a breather or chatting with mates. The beers are solid too, with options for those skipping the booze. But, to be fair, it's not without its flaws; one thing that came up is the ladies' loo isn't up to scratch, with no lock and a bit of grime, and there are cobwebs in the bar that give it a shabby feel. Still, if you're after an unpretentious spot where the focus is on the music and good times rather than perfection, I'd say it's well worth a visit – just keep expectations realistic and you'll have a brilliant evening.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got a brilliant live music scene with gigs almost every night, showcasing up-and-coming local talent that really gets the energy buzzing.
  • The atmosphere is spot on – a welcoming mix of locals, students, and music lovers, making it feel like a proper community hub.
  • They offer a great selection of beers, including alcohol-free options, so there's something for everyone whether you're driving or just taking it easy.
  • There's a cosy backyard area perfect for a chat or a smoke between sets, adding a nice outdoor touch on a summer evening.
  • The staff are dead friendly and the overall vibes are top-notch, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
Cons
  • The ladies' bathroom is a bit of a letdown – no lock on the stall and it's not always the cleanest, which can put a damper on things.
  • Some parts of the venue, like the main bar, have cobwebs and feel a tad shabby, so it might not be the most polished spot if you're after something fancy.
  • It's got that authentic, rough-around-the-edges charm, but that means it could do with a bit more upkeep to keep everything feeling fresh.

Keeping the independent music live in south London! Great venue!

Honestly the monthly folk group is incredible. Absolutely amazing. Every second Tuesday 7pm to 11pm. But the venue itself isn't so great. The ladies bathroom stall has no lock and isn't that clean, there are lots of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in strings in the main bar which is really off putting. But it does have a nice decor with graffiti and is very LGBTQI friendly etc. just needs to clean the venue a bit more thoroughly and fix the toilet seat and stall in the ladies.

Neatly nestled away, just off Brixton hill (and near the historic actual windmill), this Irish pub is unique, with an atmosphere all its own. Frequently live music and an eclectic mix of both young and old punters, local drinkers and a student crowd, etc. Plenty of outside areas for smokers, etc, which includes partially enclosed space with sofas and tables, etc, frequented by lovely Lassie, the pub's Alsatian doggy (stroke her if you can catch her!). Perhaps surprisingly, this place has become a "cool" venue, With just the right balance to capture pub punters, music lovers and emerging musicians alike. Suck it n' see! 🇮🇪☘️🍺 🍻 🐾🐾

This spot has great staff, great vibes, and most importantly, great music. It’s a low-key legend in the London music community for consistently platforming and exposing the best in local independent music. Honestly, you can’t go wrong. Buy a ticket to any lineup and you’re sure to become a fan of at least one of the bands you see.

Great place if you are looking for a shabby and authentic music venue with good beers (also alc free) and a backyard to hang out in between the gigs.
