Windmill Brixton

You know, I had a great time at Windmill Brixton the other night, and it's just the sort of place that makes you appreciate the independent music scene in South London. They've got an incredible lineup of gigs happening most evenings, from emerging bands to themed nights, and it's all so affordable – tickets are usually just a fiver or so. The crowd's a real mix, which keeps things interesting and inclusive, and I loved the outdoor backyard for grabbing a breather or chatting with mates. The beers are solid too, with options for those skipping the booze. But, to be fair, it's not without its flaws; one thing that came up is the ladies' loo isn't up to scratch, with no lock and a bit of grime, and there are cobwebs in the bar that give it a shabby feel. Still, if you're after an unpretentious spot where the focus is on the music and good times rather than perfection, I'd say it's well worth a visit – just keep expectations realistic and you'll have a brilliant evening.
