About This Pub

Ah, the We-Anchor-In-Hope – it's one of those reliable pubs you end up chatting about over a round with mates. From what I've gathered, it's got this warm, welcoming feel that's hard to beat, especially thanks to the staff who go above and beyond to make your visit special. I mean, hearing about folks like Lilly or Nicky being so friendly and attentive really puts a smile on your face; it's like they're part of the community magic. The food's another highlight – think tasty, well-priced meals that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank, and the garden's a lovely spot for families or just soaking up some fresh air with a drink in hand. They're big on sports too, so if you're into watching the Women's Euros or rugby, it's a top choice to secure a seat and get stuck in. On the flip side, while the recent buzz is all positive, that overall rating nudges it down a bit, hinting at times when things might not be quite as seamless – maybe a wait for service or the odd off day. Plus, as a Greene King spot, it has that familiar pub vibe, which is comforting but could feel a touch ordinary if you're after something more distinctive. All in all, it's a solid go-to for a good night out, but worth keeping in mind those little imperfections to set your expectations right.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is spot on, with delicious options that offer great value for money, like those tasty plates for a steal.
  • It's a welcoming spot for families, with a nice clean garden that's perfect for kids and even dogs to enjoy.
  • They've got a great vibe for watching live sports, especially big events like the Women's Euros or rugby tours, with screens and a lively atmosphere.
  • Plenty of facilities to make your visit smooth, including beer gardens, WiFi, and even EV charging if you're popping in by car.
Cons
  • The overall rating sits at a solid 3.9, which suggests there might be occasional slip-ups in service or consistency that don't always hit the mark.
  • It seems like it could get a bit quiet or overlooked sometimes, as one review mentioned it doesn't get the attention it deserves, which might mean it's not always buzzing.
  • With operating hours wrapping up fairly early, like 10:30pm on Sundays, it might not suit those looking for a late-night hangout.
  • As a chain pub under Greene King, it might lack that unique, quirky charm some independent spots have, feeling a tad standard in places.

We had a great experience at the pub thanks to one of the staff members, a lovely girl called Lilly who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, she had a warm smile and a positive attitude that made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure everyone felt comfortable. It’s always nice to be served by someone who clearly enjoys their job and cares about the customers. Great service!

The food was delicious and very well priced the garden was nice and clean the service was quick and helpful. The pub is lovely for families and young children can enjoy the garden. The staff are polite and go out of their way to help. Over all I'd say a very nice pub close to nice walks and nice woods. Would recommend this pub to everyone if you're looking for a nice relaxing meal and drink after a walk in the woods.
