About This Pub
Ah, The Green Man – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community hub in Welling, you know? From what I've gathered, it's got this warm, inviting atmosphere where you can pop in for a pint and end up chatting away with the staff or fellow visitors. The family side of things is spot on; there's a massive garden with a play area, so it's brilliant if you're out with the little ones, letting the adults kick back with a drink in peace. The food's a winner too – think hearty pub classics and fresh pizzas that go down a treat, all at prices that won't break the bank. And if you're into sports, they've got live events on the telly, which adds to the lively buzz. On the flip side, I have to mention that one review was a bit of a downer, talking about some hygiene issues with food handling at an event – that's not ideal and could put a dampener on things if you're planning something special. Overall, though, with a rating around 4.2, it's clear most folks have a great time, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to avoid any surprises. If you're looking for a reliable spot to unwind, I'd say give it a go – you might just find your new favourite local!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got a brilliant family-friendly atmosphere with a huge outdoor garden and play area, making it ideal for a relaxed day out with the kids.
-
The staff are super friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home – their slogan 'Come as a stranger, leave as a friend' really rings true.
-
They offer a great selection of drinks at reasonable prices, plus tasty pub grub like traditional dishes and homemade pizzas that hit the spot.
-
Live sports on big screens from Sky and TNT make it a top choice for catching the game with mates.
-
It's well-suited for events like parties or wakes, with a function room that's easy to hire and a welcoming vibe overall.
Cons
-
There was a worrying report about hygiene during a buffet service, where food was handled unsafely – that's something to keep an eye on if you're booking an event.
-
Opening hours are consistent, but with a moderate price level, some might find the food options a bit limited if you're after something more adventurous.
-
A few reviews hint at inconsistencies, like one person having a disappointing experience, so it might not be perfect every time you visit.

Nice pub, two bars, saloon and lounge. Both show sports on big screens. Area to drink outside and large beer garden with kids play area. Drinks good value. Seafood van out the front sometimes open. A good locals pub.
Had a great Sunday afternoon drink on remembrance Sunday. Amazing garden for the kids. Good beer selection. Sea food stall in the car park. Friendly staff made us very welcome. What more could you ask for from a pub?
Visited yesterday for a wake and was disgusted at the buffet. The food was constantly picked up and moved to different plates by the lady who was doing the buffet, using her hands that she has been previously been scratching her head and picking up glasses. I was so shocked to see her picking handfuls of sausage rolls in front of me and putting them on different plates. Will not be going back!
Having viewed a couple of other local venues we booked a private room for our brother's wake. Unlike the other venues, we were immediately made to feel welcome and felt that this venue would suit our needs with it's bright open outlook and level access for elderly guests. A lovely lady went through all the catering options with us, plus extras available. We ordered for 50 guests, even though she felt we'd have too much food. On the day itself there was a good variety of food as promised which was replenished quickly as trays were emptied. Our guests all gave positive feedback and said how much they'd enjoyed the buffet. We took a few leftovers home and left the rest to be enjoyed by regulars in the main bar.
Lovely pub and really friendly staff, the roast was delicious and really fresh, loads for the kids to do in the garden.
