About This Pub

Ah, the Unicorn – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs in Ilford that feels like a proper hidden gem, especially if you're after a laid-back spot to unwind with mates. From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute stars; they're welcoming and make you feel like part of the gang, which really adds to that warm, friendly vibe. It's brilliant for watching live sports – imagine cheering on the Lionesses with a cold pint in hand! Plus, with family and dog-friendly vibes, a nice beer garden, and everyday deals on drinks, it's easy to see why folks keep coming back. On the flip side, though, it's not all rosy; the toilets are a bit grim and could do with a good sort-out, and some areas like the pool table look a bit tired and cramped. The outside doesn't exactly pull you in, and it can be quieter than you'd expect, which might not suit if you're in the mood for a buzzing night. Food-wise, it's decent but not always worth the coin, and while most staff are lovely, a few seem a bit off. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening, but I'd say it's best for those who don't mind overlooking the rough edges – give it a go if you're nearby, and you'll likely have a good time, just manage your expectations a bit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a warm, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with friends or family over a pint.
  • They show live sports like the Women's Euros, which makes it a brilliant spot for match days – the excitement is palpable!
  • Being family-friendly and dog-friendly means it's great for a relaxed outing with the kids or your furry mate.
  • There's a lovely beer garden where you can enjoy a drink in the fresh air, plus handy facilities like WiFi and a car park.
Cons
  • The toilets are in a bit of a state, which can really put a dampener on things after a few drinks.
  • Some areas, like the pool table, feel run-down and a tad congested, making it less enjoyable for games.
  • The outside of the pub looks quite uninviting and neglected, so it might not catch your eye at first glance.
  • It can be pretty quiet at times, which is nice for a peaceful chat but might lack that lively buzz you're after.
  • Food portions don't always live up to the price, and service from some staff isn't as polite as you'd hope.

Every time I visit it's very quite , not many people inside. Toilets are disgusting, 4 fruit machines, pool table area run down and congested. The outside is extremely run down very uninviting. Food is decent, younger staff are polite but others not so much, has a car park.

Unicorn such a nice place to spend sometime with friends or family for couple of drinks. They have a live streaming here. On match day it will be like OMG. If ur not fan of watching live streaming. You have a place outside where you can relax in fresh air and have drinks. Coming to kitchen service iths pathetic. They can't supply as per demand. It happened thrice with me whenever order food they say kitchen closed or the person inside kitchen is irritating. But the ambience and space in the unicorn is superb. Go for only drinks 😜 not for food. Drink service is awesome they are fast enough. Food service pathetic.

This pub is just so good. It's hard to say that these days! It's a nice, non mainstream pub that has a warm, friendly atmosphere and great staff who are more than welcoming and polite. It's filled with friendly local people who are always up for a chat! The Unicorn has been open for years. I personally use to go there alot in my early 20s but now, around 15 years later. It's just as good. Great food. Pool tables and a big screen with a fantastic choice of beers on tap and bottles all reasonably priced!! Wouldn't change a thing!
