About This Pub
You know, when you wander into Tynemouth Lodge, it's like discovering a hidden gem that's kept its authentic English pub spirit alive for years. The real ale is brilliant – always well-poured and full of flavour, just as folks rave about in their reviews – and the friendly faces behind the bar make you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for the evening. That historic backdrop, with its ties to old Georgian times and a peaceful beer garden that's ideal for a sunny afternoon with the dog in tow, really adds to the appeal. On the flip side, it's a straightforward spot without any hot meals or entertainment like telly or tunes, so it might not be the place if you're after something more upbeat or a full dinner. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone who appreciates a good, no-fuss pint in a welcoming environment, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're exploring the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The real ale is absolutely spot on – it's well-kept and a real highlight, with mentions of cracking pints like Bass and Black Sheep that keep you coming back.
-
The staff and locals are so welcoming and friendly, making it feel like you're chatting with mates in a cosy, convivial atmosphere.
-
That historic charm is a delight, with the pub dating back to Georgian times and even featuring in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for decades – it's like stepping into a piece of the past.
-
The beer garden is a lovely touch, tucked away in a woodland spot with a marquee for shelter, and it's great that it's family and dog-friendly for a relaxed outing.
Cons
-
There's no hot food available, so if you're after a proper meal with your pint, you'll have to head elsewhere or make do with snacks.
-
It sticks to a very traditional setup with no TV, music, or gaming machines, which might feel a bit quiet or old-school for those wanting a livelier vibe.
-
Being just one room, it can get a tad snug when it's busy, and while it's charming, it might not suit everyone looking for more modern amenities.

Been to this pub on 2 occasions and was really impressed.Great real ale each time and good service.
Definitely going back
Called in on a Monday evening with a mate and enjoyed a couple of pints of best Bass I've had. Must have been somebody's birthday as we were welcomed to share a food platter of sandwiches and pastries. Great little pub, wonderful staff and friendly locals.
10/10 👍
Lovely pub really nice girl serving, black sheep beer is a good beer my tipple I'll always pop in when I'm in tynemouth, car pk to the side 😀
I’ve been coming here for 16 years now, and have followed my parents’ lead into this being a form favourite pub. Fantastic staff, well kept beer, friendly and convivial atmosphere, reasonable prices. I hope it never changes.
Proper proper pub! Cracking facade & a classic one room pub inside. Perfect pint of Bass Premium 4.4% cask conditioned beer - accompanied by a Nicholson’s pork pie! What’s not to like about that combination.
