About This Pub
Ah, Trotters Bar & Kitchen – it's one of those places that just feels like a breath of fresh air when you step inside, especially if you're after a relaxed spot in Colchester for a hearty breakfast, a quick lunch, or even an evening unwind with mates. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the team there really go the extra mile with their helpful nature and efficient service, making everything from booking a party to grabbing a drink feel seamless and enjoyable – I've heard loads of stories about brilliant birthday bashes and work dos that went off without a hitch. The food's a real winner too, with fresh, home-cooked options that don't break the bank, and that beer garden is a gem for soaking up the outdoors with a cold one in hand. On the flip side, though, it's a bit of a shame it's not open every day, so you might need to plan around that if you're not local, and it can get quite lively at peak times, which might not suit if you're after a quiet corner. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time out, with that perfect mix of warmth and quality that keeps people coming back for more – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, helpful, and quick to make you feel right at home, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
-
They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from a wide range of draught beers and ciders to wines, cocktails, and spirits, plus a cosy beer garden that's perfect for a sunny afternoon.
-
The food is spot on; think freshly prepared, home-cooked breakfasts and lunches that hit the spot, with options for take-away if you're in a rush.
-
It's a top choice for events – free venue hire with no fuss, making it easy to host parties or business gatherings, and folks rave about how straightforward the booking is.
-
The atmosphere is just lovely; it's buzzing with locals, has free WiFi, and feels like a proper cosy spot for a catch-up or a bite.
Cons
-
It's only open four days a week, which might leave you out of luck if you're planning a mid-week visit or fancy a Sunday pint.
-
Things can get pretty hectic during busy times, especially with all the office crowd popping in, so you might have to wait a bit for service.
-
While it's great for parties, they don't cater for anyone under 18, which could be a downside if you're organising something for a mixed group.

Booked a surprise birthday party for my mum at Trotters. Booking was super easy, & the guys were super quick to respond to any questions I had. Everyone had an amazing evening & the bartender was lovely and patient with a busy bar all night. Will 100% book future events here ☺️ Thank you to the team at Trotters!
Hosted my birthday party here. Venue was a decent size for the amount of people (about 40). What really stood out throughout was the helpfulness, excellent communication and friendliness of the staff in the build up to the party and on the night. Such a brilliant deal considering you get your money back if enough money is spend on the bar. Would definitely recommend!
If you are looking for somewhere to throw a party, this is the place. Great venue, helpful owners. Made the party planning simple and stress free. Accommodating and made the night itself even more fun with the atmosphere created.
Owner and chef are very friendly and upbeat personality. I come here during my work lunch breaks. I had tried fish sandwich, cheesy fries and jacket potato so far! They all very good and reasonable pricing as well! I highly recommend it
Great venue I'd you want to private hire a cozy area with decent outside bit. Bar staff were fast and friendly. Several different beers and ciders on tap. Also good selection of spirits. Will definitely try and go and try the breakfast which many people say are pretty good.
