About This Pub
Ah, The Woodman's Stroke – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in the picturesque village of Rothley. From what I've gathered, the staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and that attentive service that makes you want to linger a bit longer. The place has this lovely traditional feel with open fires and beamed ceilings that give it a real homely charm, and the outdoor areas are spot on for sunnier days. They've got a solid range of drinks too, like those hand-pulled ales and local brews that go down a treat. It's no surprise it's got such high marks from folks who've visited – most reviews are glowing about the atmosphere and how welcoming it all is. But, to keep it real, it's a shame about the food; it's only available for weekday lunches, so if you're after a bite later in the day or on weekends, you might have to head elsewhere. Plus, there were a couple of mentions of uncomfortable seating and someone vaping inside, which isn't quite the ticket. All in all, though, it's a solid spot for a pint and a catch-up with mates – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, just plan around those food hours.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, professional, and always ready with a warm welcome that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's got that classic cosy pub vibe with open fires, low beamed ceilings, and lovely outdoor spaces, perfect for a chat over a pint regardless of the weather.
-
They offer a cracking selection of local craft beers, hand-pulled ales, wines, and spirits, which really hit the spot for a relaxed drink.
-
The overall atmosphere is welcoming and traditional, with plenty of positive vibes from regulars who rave about the place.
Cons
-
Food is only served during weekday lunchtimes, so if you're popping in for an evening tipple or on the weekend, you might miss out on a proper meal.
-
There have been a few grumbles about seating not being as comfy as hoped, which could make for an awkward sit if you're settling in for a while.
-
Occasionally, there are issues like someone vaping inside, which isn't ideal and can put a damper on the experience.

If my review was based on the food, I would give 5 stars.
However, although requesting in advance for comfy chairs, when we arrived at 1215, we were told that we had to sit at a table with stools.
Very uncomfortable !
It was a shame as we had looked forward to our meeting with friends.
Proper old fashioned local pub vibe! Always have a good time here when I go with the Mrs or the fam. Good selection of beers, wines and spirits. The landlord is a nice fella and it used to have lots of sports memorabilia on display, alas some street urchins stole some, so now not on display. Mixed age range of the clientele, nice low ceiling with beams - highly recommended - go try it.
A traditional English pub with wooden beams and welcoming fire in the quaint village of Rothley. The staff could not be more welcoming. There is a good menu selection for lunch. Definitely will try to go back during the evening.
