Found the manageress extremely rude, and she spoke to the young girls that was working there like dirt on her shoe. She told us that we wasn’t allowed an extra chair at our table even though the restaurant was empty, her husband was also as equally as rude because the children had an extra napkin. Also my granddaughter banged her head on the outside play area and we had to ask the staff a number of times for a cold compress, eventually they came out with a wet paper towel. We use to spend a lot of money here but I definitely won’t be going back.
RUDE AND UNACCOMODATING STAFF
I have been to Poppies a number of times over the past 12 months. Each time I've left feeling disappointed but given it another chance. However, the staff are very rude and so unfriendly.
We often would attend as a group of new mums with babies and as soon as we walk in, they would tutt and moan that we hadn't booked. Then would make us seem like we were an inconvenience. They would never help us move chairs or get Highchairs out which they have hidden on the other side of the pub.
One of the occasions we were mid way eating and they threw the bill on the table, even though we wanted to order more drinks and cake. Very much a pay and get out.
They are not accommodating with the food choices at all, orders poached eggs on toast and asked if I could have it on a bagel instead, but no I had to buy the bagel (not an issue) and then have it come and put it on the bagel myself.
On the last occasion, I went with my mum who had just recently had surgery and could only eat liquids, asked if we could order the soup but have it blended/mashed. Told no, it's tinned soup and that the management wouldn't allow the cook to blend it. Charging £5 for tinned soup.
Very disappointing and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
5TH APRIL 2025
‘Sauntering Saturday’… normally‘Wandering Wednesday!’….. this week took the Best Son in my World out for luncheon for Mother’s Day, as I was working Sunday gone.
We kept it local and decided to go to ‘Poppies’ at The Woodlands pub in Great Sankey.
It was a beautiful hot sunny day and there was plenty of people there, plus The Grand National runs today, so maybe that’s why it was busy.
Didn’t have a problem getting a table, the pub is very clean and tidy, all the bar staff were very professional and attentive.
The food was just literally cooking time, it was piping hot, beautifully presented and plentiful.
We both had the same, fish, chips, peas, a small jug of chip shop curry sauce, two slices of bread and butter, tartar sauce….. and of course loads of ketchup!……
Max and Rhi gave me beautiful cards, a hyacinth plant, some daffodils and my all time favourite chocolate……GALAXY….
Love you both so much, thank you.
Would we return to Poppies?
Most definitely…xxx❤️
The food was hot and lovely, but the customer service not so good. Waited to be seated ,staff left us waiting . Then tutted as we hadn't booked . Plonked the bill down and made us feel like we had over stayed our welcome . Been nice to have been asked if we enjoyed our breakfast and if we would like anything else.
Love it, cozy in the inside with loads of seating. They also have a good seating at their beer garden. Food is affordable and was impressed with it, definitely coming back and trying other stuff. Staff were very friendly and very nice, they kept on clearing tables of glasses. Menu had good choices of food and I liked the kids menu which was very affordable too. My kids enjoyed the mini play ground at the beer garden.
