About This Pub
Ah, The William Webb Ellis – it's one of those classic British pubs in Rugby that really captures the essence of a good night out with mates. I love how the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick lunch or celebrating something big like a wedding; they've handled large groups with real ease in the past. The food's a highlight too – think tasty Sunday roasts and a solid menu of pub favourites that hit the spot every time, and it's ace that they welcome dogs, so you don't have to leave your four-legged friend at home. Plus, if you're into sports, it's got all the trimmings with live action on the telly and a nice selection of ales. On the flip side, though, service isn't always spot on; I've heard tales of waits for staff or food delays that can drag things out, and it can feel a bit empty on some days, which might not give you that lively pub vibe you're craving. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up, but it's worth keeping in mind those little niggles to manage your expectations – after all, no place is perfect, and this one's got plenty of charm to outweigh the minor downsides.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
-
It's a brilliant spot for special occasions, like weddings or large group meals, with flexible options and a real community feel.
-
Being dog-friendly is a real winner; you can pop in with your furry companion for a pint and some grub without any fuss.
-
The food's spot on, especially the Sunday roasts and pub classics – plenty of choices to suit everyone, from hearty meals to lighter bites.
-
It's got a great vibe for watching live sports, with facilities like sports TV and cask ales that make it a go-to for match days.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit patchy at times, like waiting around for staff or facing delays with food, which might put a dampener on your visit.
-
It sometimes feels a tad quiet, especially for a popular spot, so it might not always have that buzzing atmosphere you're after.
-
There have been a few mix-ups with orders, such as getting the wrong dessert, which can be frustrating if you're looking for a seamless experience.

We booked on for 12 people for a meal after our wedding!
Nothing was too much trouble for Lisa the landlady, she was such a sweetheart and we couldn’t have asked for better!
We ended up only having 11 people but that didn’t phase her, she allowed us to bring our wedding cake in and give it out after our meal and the wonderful chef Jamie even made some Chantilly cream and a massive fruit platter for us which was amazing!
The food was second to none, not a massive wait and all cooked for the same time so nobody had to wait.
Simply amazing 🤩 could not of asked for more xx thank you for making our day so special ♥️
We would definitely recommend the place, food and service and will definitely be returning again ♥️
I had an excellent lunch at the Webb Ellis today, very good service and very friendly efficient staff. Would recommend and will visit again.
I remember when it was hard to get into the Webb Ellis for Sunday lunch. The pub was always busy and full of life. Not today.
The place was virtually empty at 1pm. No- one was behind the bar and we had to wait a couple of minutes for a member of staff to come out of the kitchen. This happened on subsequent visits to the bar as well. When we were served, they had no ice and not all the desserts were available.
This is what turned up as a kid's Sunday roast. Eventually, after arguing the point that it said sausage(s) plural on the menu, a second veggie sausage was brought out. The gravy came in tiny jugs and when we asked for more gravy were told we would have to pay more for extra gravy. The quality of everything on our plates was poor.
Very sad when you think of the plentiful, well-cooked, value for money meals you used to get at the Webb, and the atmosphere there.
We went for a Christmas meal in a large group. Our table was the last to be served and we were there for 2 hours before getting anything to eat. The food was nice when it came. For dessert we were supposed to have banoffee pie but they gave us chocolate torte - our dessert was served so late that the rest of the group was leaving as we were trying to eat it so we didn't bother to ask the waitress about it. The waitresses were friendly.
What a lovely place! The staff are very kind and friendly, and my time here became a wonderful memory.
