About This Pub

Ah, The Rugby Hotel – it's one of those places that feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the rooms are generally clean and have that fresh, refurbished vibe, which is always a plus when you're kicking back after a day out. The staff are absolute stars, really going out of their way to sort you out, and the bar's a treat with some top-notch ales that make it easy to linger with friends. Location-wise, it's spot on in Rugby, so you're never far from the action. But, let's be honest, it's not all rosy – some rooms have this odd, stable-like smell that sticks to your clothes and hair, and without air con, it can get a bit stuffy on warmer evenings. Then there are the little annoyances, like dodgy TVs or cracked windows that make you wish they'd spruce things up a bit more. The breakfast might disappoint if you're expecting something fancy, and if you're sensitive to noise, those outside sounds could keep you awake. Overall, it's a decent choice for a relaxed pub stay, especially if you're after good value and friendly service, but it might not be the most polished option out there – still, I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives often outweigh the quirks.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The rooms are spotlessly clean and have a nice, recently refurbished feel to them, which makes for a comfortable stay.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always going above and beyond to make your visit enjoyable.
  • It's in a brilliant location right in the heart of Rugby, making it easy to pop out for a wander or catch up with mates.
  • The bar serves up some quality ales, perfect for settling in with a pint and a chat after a long day.
Cons
  • Some rooms can have a bit of a musty smell, like you're in a stable rather than a cosy spot, which puts a damper on things.
  • There's no air conditioning, which can make nights uncomfortably warm, especially in the summer months.
  • A few maintenance issues crop up, such as cracked windows or a telly that doesn't work properly, making it feel a tad outdated.
  • Noise from outside can keep you up late, and the lack of a lift means lugging bags up narrow stairs isn't much fun.

We recently hosted a pre-wedding function at the Rugby Hotel, where we had booked both the event venue and several rooms for our guests. The experience exceeded our expectations in every way. The hotel staff provided exceptional service throughout our stay and went above and beyond to accommodate every request with professionalism and warmth. A special thank you to Nadine, whose unwavering support and “can-do” attitude truly stood out. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her—she handled everything with grace and a smile. Her dedication played a huge role in making our event seamless and memorable. We’re incredibly grateful to the entire team at the Rugby Hotel for helping make this special occasion so smooth and enjoyable for us and our guests..

My 5th week staying here for work now. Back in room 208. Minuses, stairs feel narrow when you're struggling up with winter clothes and baggage. Broken fanlight in 208 has been boarded over now. Pluses, room 208 has a sort of 'corridor'/entrance hall so you can leave your shoes and PPE away from your room - and not knock the mirror off the wall as you go in. The bathrooms, linen, USB sockets everywhere and headboards with built in individual lights - to die for! No airplane, pub or train noise to speak of. Asda has almost anything you need if you've forgotten something. Iron, ironing board, kettle, hairdryer provided. They lent me cutlery as I took to buying salads from Asda and left my stuff at work. I used their fridge as there are none in the room. It's spacious and cosy downstairs. TV up and downstairs. Checked in January 2025 for 4 nights, had room 103. Worried because it overlooked high street. Slept really well, enjoyed my stay and looked forward to coming back the following week. The room had been warm and comfortable. Arrived 20 January - given room 208 - half a pane of glass missing! Next level up in the building so had to leave bags, go downstairs, explain the problem, given 212 (I would not recommend 212 if you're claustrophobic!). It felt smaller than the 103 I'd started off with. Room prices variable - £99-£130.

Location is great but rooms smells like you are in a stable..it is clean but smell is a killer, all clothes and my hair smell led like a stable..breakfast included was dissapointing. In the evening we ended up going to sleep at 11 pm as was so much noise you could hear from outside that kids were scared someone will get in the room as they were able to hear drunk people from outside to neat bars.. Will never come back to bad location is great and we spend £120 for one night..
