About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The William Gunn – it's this charming spot just across from Trent Bridge, and I've got to say, it's one of those places that just makes you want to linger a bit longer. From the moment you walk in, the staff are so welcoming and attentive, like they're genuinely chuffed to have you there, and it's brilliant how they roll out the red carpet for dogs too; we popped in with ours and they were treated like VIPs with water and treats. The food specials are an absolute highlight – think half-price meals on Mondays or that steak night deal with wine, all made from local, quality produce that tastes spot on, especially their Sunday roasts which folks rave about. It's got that cosy, dimly lit corner feel that's perfect for chatting over a pint or catching the footie, and with events like the Beaujolais Breakfast, there's always something fun on the go. On the flip side, the opening times can be a tad confusing with those varying Sunday slots, so it's worth double-checking before you head out, and while it's modern and sophisticated, it might not satisfy if you're after a more rustic, no-fuss pub experience. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out – the high ratings speak for themselves, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for the food and atmosphere alone.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food deals are brilliant – things like half-price meals on Mondays and steak nights make it a wallet-friendly spot for a great meal.
  • It's incredibly dog-friendly, with staff going out of their way to welcome furry friends, which is perfect if you're out for a walk and fancy a stop.
  • The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, with a modern twist on traditional pub vibes, especially right opposite the Trent Bridge cricket ground.
  • Service is top-notch; the team, including the manager, are really attentive and friendly, making every visit feel special.
  • They've got a cracking lineup of events and live sport, plus specials like pie nights and Sunday roasts that are just spot on.
Cons
  • The opening hours seem a bit muddled from what I've seen, with varying times listed for Sundays, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit.
  • It's got a modern feel rather than a classic old-school pub charm, so if you're after something more traditional, it might not quite hit the mark.
  • No clear price info available, so you might end up surprised if the bills add up more than expected for a casual night out.

The William Gunn truly exceeded our expectations! We were looking for a dog-friendly pub where we could relax, enjoy good food, and settle into a cosy corner—and this place delivered on all fronts. We were seated in a wonderfully snug spot with warm, dim lighting, and our dog was warmly welcomed with a large bowl of water, which was a lovely touch. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout. The only downside was the wait time—it took nearly 50 minutes for our meals to arrive. Because of that, we decided to skip dessert, as we didn’t want to end up spending over three hours there. That said, everything else was excellent, and we’d definitely return (just maybe when we’re not in a rush).

Had a lovely lunch here, cosy and friendly atmosphere. Our dogs received water and a treat, which was a nice touch. We had the flat bread with steak…and it was amazing!! Highly recommend visiting this pub, deserves all the good reviews that lead us here. We will def return, and recommend to people we know.

This pub is outstanding. It is really modern and it has only been open a few months. I went for Sunday lunch with my dad and I have to say it was outstanding. It was really tasty and delicious. I had a cauliflower cheese as a side order and this was really nice. Then I had to finish off with the sticky Toffee Pudding with custard for dessert. We'll what can I say it definitely got my taste buds going and it was superb. I would definitely recommend it to everybody x x
