About This Pub

Ah, The White Horse – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that just feels like a reliable old friend, tucked away in Ashton-under-Lyne. From the reviews, you can tell it's got that genuine, welcoming charm, with staff who go out of their way to make you feel at ease, and it's spot on for kicking back with a pint while cheering on the footie. The drinks selection is a real highlight, with some cracking lagers and bitters that folks rave about, and if you're lucky, you might even grab a bite of those tasty samosas or bring your dog along for the fun. On the downside, though, there was that one sticky situation where someone got an alcohol-free cider by mistake and couldn't get it sorted, which is a shame and might leave you hoping for a bit more attention to detail on busy nights. All in all, with its solid 4.3 rating, it's a great shout for a laid-back evening, but I'd say it's worth keeping expectations realistic – the good times usually outweigh the minor niggles, making it a decent spot to pop into with your crowd.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a great atmosphere, especially for watching the football with your mates – perfect for a lively catch-up.
  • They offer a solid selection of drinks, like fantastic lagers and bitters that hit the spot every time.
  • Dog-friendly vibes make it a welcoming spot if you're popping in with your four-legged friend.
  • Some tasty food options, such as those excellent samosas, add a nice touch to the experience.
Cons
  • There was a bit of a service slip-up in one review, where they didn't clearly explain about alcohol-free drinks and wouldn't swap it out.
  • With reviews dating back a few years and not many recent ones, it might feel a tad unpredictable these days.
  • It could do with a bit more consistency in handling orders to avoid any unnecessary frustrations.

I attended the White horse on a works event where there was about 45 paying adults. I asked for an old mout cider but the barman failed to explain that the only one he had was alcohol free. Once I realised I went back to the bar but the barman would not exchange it for an alcohol version even though he had failed to explain to me that the only one he had contained no alcohol and was quite rude when I asked him to exchange saying it was no good to him now. Card payments must be over £5 which was an inconvenience for most of the party I was with. In a plus note The toilet facilities were good and there was plant of room for all of us plus the regulars that frequent the place.
