About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Whistle Stop, it just brings a smile to my face – it's one of those unassuming spots that really delivers on the basics and then some. From what I've gathered from the reviews, folks absolutely love the warm, welcoming vibe; the bar staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quick one or settling in for a chat. The beers are spot on too, with a great range of real ales that are always served just right, and it's clear that people appreciate the little touches like the cosy fire in winter or those picnic tables overlooking the platforms – it's like having your pint with a side of people-watching. On the flip side, being a micro pub means space is at a premium, so if it's a busy day, you might end up standing or waiting for a spot, and without an online presence, it's not the easiest place to plan around. All in all, though, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area; it's got that authentic pub feel that keeps drawing people back, and with ratings hovering around 4.7, it's clear it's hitting the mark for most. If you're a fan of proper pubs, give it a go – you might just find your new favourite stop-off.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
-
They've got a cracking selection of real ales and other drinks, all in top-notch condition – perfect for a proper pint.
-
The atmosphere is spot on, with cosy seating and the chance to watch trains whizz by from the picnic tables; it's a real treat if you're into that.
-
It's conveniently located right at the station, ideal for a quick stop while waiting for your train or a relaxed afternoon.
Cons
-
As a micro pub, it's on the small side, so it can get a bit snug if it's busy, and you might not always find a seat.
-
There's no website or phone number available, which makes it a tad tricky to check on opening times or special events before heading over.
-
The operating hours seem a little inconsistent from the listings, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment.

What a pleasant surprise when my connecting train was delayed by 30mins. All stations need a whistle stop. Barmaid was awesome also 👏🏼 👌🏼 😎
Really nice pub. Friendly barman. Great to sit on their picnic tables on the platform enjoying a pint of real ale and watching the trains go by.
Super little pub on Grantham railway station. Beers from Zest (formerly Oldershaws) on tap and all in excellent condition. Lovely friendly service too.
Excellent micropub with a fine choice of beers and other drinks, along with very friendly service.
Nice little pub which is accessible from both the platform and car park area of the station. There’s a decent enough range of drinks on tap and a full range of spirits. A small fire keeps the place warm in the winter and there’s plenty of seating given the size of the place, including some stools at the bar. There’s a selection of books on the window sill, some fun signs on the walls and even a couple of kids toys in the corner. Service is quick and friendly, prices decent given the location and even a selection of snacks and sandwiches. Great little bar.
