About This Pub
Ah, The Village Bar & Grill – it's one of those neighbourhood spots that feels like it could be a go-to for a casual evening, tucked away in Hornchurch with easy parking right outside. I have to say, from what I've gathered, it's got some charming bits; the staff can be dead friendly on a good day, and that music kicking in towards the end of the night really lifts the spirits and makes you want to linger a bit longer. It's part of a hotel setup, so if you're staying over or just fancy a bite after exploring, it might suit you nicely. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – the food's been a bit of a letdown for some, with meals coming out lukewarm or not quite up to scratch, like dry burgers and chewy fish that don't live up to the grill promise. Service-wise, things can get a tad chaotic when they're short on hands, leading to waits for the basics and the odd unorganised moment at the bar. Still, if you're up for a low-key night with mates, it's got potential, just maybe keep an eye on the clock and go in with a balanced view – after all, every pub has its quirks, and this one's no exception.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's a handy local spot with convenient parking, making it easy to pop in after a drive.
-
Some of the staff are friendly and welcoming, which helps create a relaxed atmosphere.
-
The music can really liven things up, especially later in the evening, adding a bit of fun to your night out.
Cons
-
Food quality is often hit or miss – dishes like burgers and chips have been described as dry, cold, or not fresh, which is a shame for a grill.
-
Service can be slow and disorganised, with understaffed teams leading to long waits and unenthusiastic interactions.
-
The place feels a bit outdated and not always spotless, with issues like dirty plates and worn seating detracting from the overall experience.

The food was mediocre. The drinks were subpar - bartender was very unorganised, his drinks station was a mess and he flopped on making a virgin mojito twice. Staff weren't the most welcoming, but they did look severely understaffed. The music towards the end of the night lightened things up a bit. I wouldn't come back.
Great local bar/restaurant. Parking.
I came here with a group of friends last night for a christmas get together. I cant say i will be returning. The restaraunt was under staffed for the number of tables..we had to ask for water and glasses for the table, and also ask (after 10 mins of waiting)for our wine glasses. The food was tepid at best and I could have cooked a nicer meal for my friends myself. The dessert was basic, clearly bought in on a mass scale, defosted and served. Very disappointing....we left after out meal.
Really disappointed. Fish was clearly not fresh and just cooked from frozen, tough and chewy. Chips tasted like they were from McDonalds. Starters plain and it seemed like the only attempt of any side salad was dry, old rocket. The restaurant itself was very outdated with rips on the booth seats and there was a strong smell of damp where we sat. All in all, hugely over priced for horrid food. Won't be returning.
Disgusting !
Place was completely empty when we arrived, staff were friendly but others were rude speaking little English.
The plates were dirty, the Oreo milkshake was just all milk with no Oreo, the burgers were dry, the chips were cold hard and crunchy.
