About This Pub
Ah, The Tourmalet – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its charm, tucked away on Buchanan Street. From the reviews I've seen, it's got this fantastic array of ales and lagers that hit the mark, and the atmosphere is just right for sinking into a good chat over a drink. I love how it's not slammed with people, making it ideal for a quiet catch-up or a relaxed evening. The prices are fair too, so you won't break the bank just for a pint. On the flip side, though, it's not all rosy; a few folks have had off days with the service, like one who was miffed about a poorly poured Guinness and a bar staff member who wasn't exactly beaming with smiles. And honestly, the cleanliness could do with a spruce-up – there are tales of dust everywhere, cobwebs on the ceilings, and even a whiff of something unpleasant from downstairs that might make you think twice. Still, it's got that authentic pub feel, and if you're lucky with your visit, you'll have a cracking time. All in all, it's worth popping in if you're in the area, but maybe keep your expectations in check for a balanced night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of ales and drinks is spot on – plenty of great options for a proper pint or a spirit.
-
It's got a lovely, relaxed atmosphere where you can actually chat without the music drowning you out.
-
Some of the staff are dead welcoming, making you feel right at home with their friendly service.
-
Not too packed, even in Edinburgh, so it's a nice spot to unwind without the crowds.
Cons
-
Service can be inconsistent; one person had a right moan about a badly poured Guinness and a lack of cheer from the bar staff.
-
Cleanliness is a bit of a letdown – reviews mention dust, cobwebs, and even unpleasant smells that could spoil your evening.
-
The furniture's in a sorry state in places, with things feeling a tad worn out and broken.
-
It might not be the most reliable for a top-notch experience every time, based on mixed recent feedback.

Went in on Saturday. The little idiot behind the bar didn't know how to pour a pint of Guinness properly, when she pulled it the same way you do a normal pint. Oh, and a smile or a hint of geniality wouldn't've gone amiss either, love!
Beautiful small pub with great ales and a good selection of lager and spirits. The place isn't huge and the music is just at the right volume and allows people to chat while enjoying their drinks.
It's not close enough to the centre to be crowded with party goers, but close enough for people seeking the local pub experience and to meet local folks.
I great choice for those enjoying the connections and the experience as well as a few drink.

This establishment excelled all my expectations. On a recent trip to Pilrig with my grandson, I was overcome with thirst when we stumbled upon this palace in sage green. The kind staff saw us in with a warm handshake and even offered a booster seat for my young lad. The decor is of the finest quality - a veritable cabinet du curiosite, a feast for the eyes. The rich selection of ales, spirits, and juice more than met the requirements of my parched grandchild and I. Sweet music did fill the air, and much gaiety carried on well into the evening as my grandson and I got acquainted with some neighbourhoood damsels. An enchanting experience that we would most like to repeat upon our next visit.
The dirtiest place I've ever been.
The staff were lovely but the pub looks and smells like it's never been cleaned. The ceiling and walls are thick with cobwebs, the surfaces are thick with dust, the furniture is all broken, there's a constant smell of urine that comes up from the gents downstairs and worst of all there were large sections of walls, doors, ceilings covered in black mould. I'm surprised the staff didn't all have chesty coughs. I won't ever set foot back in there. It's an embarrassment to Edinburgh.
Great little bar to stop at while we waited for our dinner table to be ready. I loved the atmosphere and the drinks were good and reasonably priced.
