About This Pub

Ah, The Toaster – what a lovely find in Bishop's Stortford! From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, it's all about that perfect start to the day with breakfasts that hit the spot every time. I mean, hearing about those full English brekkies with their nicely presented plates, buttery eggs, and garlic mushrooms makes my mouth water – it's clear they've got the ingredients and flavours just right. The staff sound like the heart of the place, with stories of friendly servers like Lily making everyone feel welcome, which really adds to that cosy, homely vibe in such a compact space. And those modern perks, like scanning a QR code to pay, make it feel fresh and hassle-free, especially when paired with a cracking iced tea or a free glass of water. On the flip side, though, it does wrap up early in the afternoon, so if you're after somewhere for a lazy lunch or evening drinks, you might be out of luck. Plus, being on the smaller side, it can fill up quickly, and without a phone number to call, sorting out a visit might take a bit more effort. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're in the area for a top breakfast – I'd say give it a go if you're up for something reliable and cheerful, but keep those timings in mind to avoid disappointment.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The breakfasts are absolutely spot on – think top-notch full English with buttery scrambled eggs, delicious sausages, and quality ingredients that make every bite feel special.
  • The staff are an absolute delight; they're friendly, welcoming, and go out of their way to make you feel right at home, like chatting with old mates over a cuppa.
  • It's got that cosy, inviting atmosphere in a small space, perfect for a relaxed morning with good music and a modern vibe that keeps things fresh.
  • Little touches like the pay-at-table tech and brilliant drinks, such as iced tea or excellent tea in a glass, make it super convenient and enjoyable.
  • Prices are reasonable, so you get great value without breaking the bank, which is always a win for a casual outing.
Cons
  • The operating hours seem a bit limited, mostly wrapping up by early afternoon, so it might not suit those after a late breakfast or evening catch-up.
  • Being a small cafe, it could get quite busy at peak times, making it tricky to snag a table without planning ahead.
  • There's no phone number listed, which might be a hassle if you need to check on availability or make enquiries on the spot.

Really nice breakfast place. Of the one's we've tried along the main high street this is definitely the best we've had. Nicely presented and our server was really lovely. Iced Tea was really nice, and some nice quality ingredients used. Would definitely recommend!

If this cafe was local I would be coming every other day. Best full English breakfast in Hertfordshire so far, very friendly staff, excellent tea in a glass and free glass of water. Scrambled eggs was nice and buttery, lovely garlic mushrooms, delicious sausages. Would I come again? Absolutely yes

My boyfriend and I came to the Toaster for breakfast this morning (first time trying here) and I must say it was absolutely lovely. It's a small cafe that had a cozy feeling and a good atmosphere. We were greeted by a lovley girl named Lily and was given a seat. She was the sweetest and served us quickly. Our coffees were out and were delicious, (oat Vanilla flat white and a pistachio latte *EASTER SPECIAL* food came out soon after. I'm not a take pictures of food kind of person but I had to send my friends picture of the food for our next brunch spot! It was really yummy food, my boyfriend and I treated ourselves to a dessert to share afterwards which was heaven! Roll onto the next time we are there! Food we had: Feta and mixed leave avo on toast Bacon and poached egg avo on toast Brulee'd banana, salted caramel and clotted cream Croffle

Checked the place beforehand, and it actually delivered everything we could hope for. The staff was really nice, food looked and tasted awesome, and I especially liked the pay-at-table technology (you could scan a QR code that lead to a website where you could see and settle your bill without having to ask for the staff, and you could even split the bill among yourselves). If you are ever in Bishop's Stortford this place is a must-visit. For the menu check their Instagram site @wearethetoaster.

Stopped here for a bite before a flight out of Stansted, just from a quick Google search. And wow. This place is good. Prices are reasonable, very friendly atmosphere, good music, modern and clean. Drinks were brilliant and the food selection was very nice (all bread of course!). And the ability to pay at the table, easy to split the bill too.
