About This Pub

Ah, The Three Horseshoes – it's one of those pubs that really warms your cockles, tucked away in Cowpen Bewley near Billingham. From what I've gathered, it's got this lovely modern country feel where the food takes centre stage; we're talking proper home-cooked meals that cater to all sorts, whether you're after a classic beef dinner, something light like parmesan, or even vegan options – and it's all done with a real emphasis on local ingredients. The staff sound like absolute gems, always on hand with a smile and quick service, which makes popping in for a bite feel like catching up with old mates. They've got tempting deals too, like their two-course specials midweek, so it's not just about the grub but getting bang for your buck. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't allow dogs inside, which might cramp plans for some, and every now and then, a dish might not hit the mark quite right, like that steak that came out a bit off-form in one review. Still, with rave feedback on the likes of their steak and ale pie or Sunday roasts, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a cracking meal overall. If you're after a relaxed pub experience with top-notch food and a cosy setting, I'd say give it a go – just keep those expectations in check for the little niggles, and you'll likely have a brilliant time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on – home-cooked, with plenty of options for gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian folks, and it's all locally sourced where possible, making it feel fresh and thoughtful.
  • The staff are always friendly and efficient, which makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere with a modern country pub vibe, perfect for a relaxed meal or catch-up with mates.
  • They've got some cracking deals, like the spring special two-course menu on certain days, which makes it great value for a good night out.
  • The menu has something for everyone, from family favourites and kids' options to a la carte and specials, so it's versatile for different groups.
Cons
  • They're not dog-friendly inside, which might put off some folk who like to bring their furry friends along.
  • Occasionally, dishes might not quite live up to expectations, like one review mentioning a steak that wasn't as described, so it's worth double-checking if you're picky about that.
  • The menu can change, which is fine but might mean your go-to dish isn't always available, as one group found out and had to adapt.

Went for a meal last night with 4 friends and even though the menu had changed they still accomodated and served food we asked for that was not on the menu. It seems like the old place is back to how it used to be a few years ago. Will definitely be back.

Food came out very quickly, which normally would not be an issue but it was minutes from placing the order. I should have questioned the steak I had ordered as it came out and looked like a frying steak. Tasted alright but if/when we go again I will definitely order something else.

Been here twice now and can not fault it. I've and the light bite parrnesan both times - just the right size. Enough to feel contently full, without being stuffed. My husband has had the belly pork. Both were absolutely delicious. Service is always friendly and prompt. I really like the decor, cosy and fun. Prices are really good. A great place. We'll be back.
