About This Pub

Ah, The Thornhill Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away from the chaos of King's Cross. I have to say, the staff really make the place; they're so warm and attentive, it'll have you coming back for another round before you know it. Whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in with friends, the old-school atmosphere is spot on for a relaxed evening. They've got outdoor tables that are perfect for a sunny afternoon, and from what I've heard, they cope brilliantly with groups, like that time they handled a massive wedding bash without breaking a sweat. On the flip side, though, the beer options are a bit straightforward – no craft brews or real ales to speak of, which is a shame if you're in the mood for something a bit more unique. It can get cosy to the point of feeling squished when it's busy, and the music sometimes cranks up louder than you'd expect, which doesn't quite gel with the traditional feel. All in all, it's a solid spot for a no-fuss night out, but if you're a beer enthusiast, you might want to manage your expectations. Still, with its 4.2 rating, it's clear plenty of folks enjoy the simple pleasures it offers – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for that homely pub vibe.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got that classic old-fashioned pub charm, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates in a quiet spot away from the hustle of King's Cross.
  • They handle groups really well, like when they managed a big wedding party without a hitch – great for organising a get-together.
  • There's outdoor seating, which is brilliant for soaking up the sun with a pint on a nice day.
  • The atmosphere is generally lovely, with a solid selection of standard beers and a menu that hits the spot for a casual meal.
Cons
  • The beer selection is a bit limited, with no craft beers or real ales on tap, which might disappoint if you're after something more adventurous.
  • It can get a tad cramped inside, especially when it's busy, so space might feel tight if you're with a larger crowd.
  • The music can be surprisingly loud at times, which doesn't always match the traditional vibe of the place and might spoil a quiet chat.
  • Kitchen hours are a bit patchy, so you might miss out on food if you don't time it right, particularly on weekends.

Nice old fashioned pub, with friendly staff in a quiet area away from the busyness of king's cross. It's a nice atmosphere, though can get a bit tight for space. Just don't expect many interesting beers, there are no craft beers on tap, but I suppose it's not that kind of pub.

Proper pub, nice welcome, great landlord. We were part of an 80+ wedding group who were very lively, all had various burgers etc, which they coped well with getting the food out as quickly as they could. We will call in next time we are in the area.

Fine old pub, with good selection of beer. The Brixton especially good. Pity about the loud music, which was incongruous with the style of the pub.

The Thornhill Arms, situated to the north of Kings Cross is a delightful street corner pub with wonderful staff. No real ales at the moment but two very sad looking pumps on the bar. Conversation indicates that there is not enough business to support the real ales at this time...DRINK MORE people!!! A comfy pleasant place to have a beer and perhaps something to eat from a little menu offering pizzas and burgers + the odd small plate.
